Did I miss something at the end of my campaign?

Good morning. I've just finished my first campaign on SH4 with TMO (Thank you Ducimus!) and I was a bit disappointed in the closing. I mean, it just ended - war over - congratulations. You go on to write a book about it. It's not like I was expecting a brass band and hula girls to greet my gallant crew upon our return to Pearl, but nothing? No tonnage stats? No steaming miles? No efficiency rating? Just "buh-bye now?"

I'm not whining, stats or no stats I had an absolute ball playing this sim. I just want to know if I missed something somewhere, because I'd like to fix it before I start on my next campaign (Asian Division this time through.)

Thanks guys.

Ahh yes, I've suffered a few of those myself. Quite anticlimactic, wouldn't you say?

Promotions, decorations, end of camapaigns....ja, the devs never were fans of making this moments special....:nope:

Armistead 07-12-10 01:39 PM

Be a good mod for someone to make. It is dull.

Diopos 07-12-10 03:18 PM

Well, taking into account the status of UBI's "stock" versions, maybe the devs didn't believe that anybody would play a full campaign to the end anyway ...:hmmm:

:)

I suppose that I could just keep my own log of patrols. That way my First Mate could roll her eyes even further back into her head!!! :salute:

That would be really fun if their was some kind of victory video!

Moddable??

@ Diopos: LMAO, good one!!:salute:

It would be a good mod if only to have a splash screen or two pop up (i.e. a victorious sub preparing to dock etc) much like the movies shown during the menus at start up.:hmmm:

From the final patrol log of the Archerfish:
August 15, 1945
0505 Quick dive.
1200 Position.
Lat. 41° 58' N.
Long. 144° 01' E.
1451 Surfaced. Heard over RB0 that President Truman had announced that the Japs surrendered.
1545 Submerged.
2001 Surfaced.
2145 Received ComSubPac serial 32 ordering the end of offensive action.
2300 Received message to go to area 2.

After that they Joined Bennys Peacemakers under the command of R. H. (Ben) Bass that steamed into Tokyo Bay for VJ DAY.

The war ended for most subs with that message, orders to cancel their current mission, and orders for what to do next. The Redfin was ordered to patrol the South China Sea for a while before returning to base. A less than dramatic ending that is mirrored in the game.

Where have I heard it....??

"Not with a bang...But with a whimper"...

flatsixes 07-13-10 06:09 PM

Well, maybe I'll send this to UBISoft for use in the upcoming Silent Hunter VI ("Newbs in the Bathtub")

Orders to steam to Tokyo Bay and when you arrive, the US fleet is at anchor, would be a great ending and thinking it could be maniupulated to do so.The modders could tell us .Or if in asiatic station, orders to return to base and game doesnt end until you arrive in port unless youre not back by say 1 September 45.

I really like that idea, Bubblehead. My dad's ship, the USS Tamalpais, was in Tokyo Bay for the formal surrender, and it was evidently quite a sight to behold. Of course, only the shooting part of the war was over. The task of rebuilding was only beginning to be appreciated.

I stay in touch with my dad's shipmates, and one of them sent me these shots of their ship riding at anchor close by the USS Missouri.

Like I said, it must have been really something to see.:salute:

I had the same issue with SH3.

Both games are pretty emotionally draining. It would be nice for some closure other than the programming credits.

Especially SH4 as we are on the winning side in that game. :woot:
