heh I've not ventured out of 0.5 space yet. mostly 0.9.
![]() I recon the learning curve is too steep for me to risk travelling anywhere where another player is likely to fill me in, and will most likely be so for some time yet to come.

I used to go into lowsec regularly when I started out until some gatecamping bastard popped my poor little shuttle and podded me without mercy (I nearly got revenge a while later, though).
As it is, it's much more profitable to mine in high sec than it seems, since for some reason the need for tritanium has completely raised the prices and Veldspar has since become one of the most profitable ores you can mine. So there's no real need to go into lowsec unless you want to kill some cruiser rats or unfortunate miners or innocent bystanders or whatever.

I play. Currently a member of AEGIS Militia, fighting against those dirty Matari terrorists in Providence.
It's still mining - the most ball-achingly boring job in EVE.

Yer, mining (at least at my skill level) is a real pain in the arse. Takes for ever with my sigil and a miner II plus mining upgrade module and expanded cargo II.
Still L1 mission running. Currently have a destroyer (over kill for L1) since my first post [Coercer, destroyer1] Power Diagnostic System I Damage Control II Small Armor Repairer II 400mm Reinforced Rolled Tungsten Plates I Cap Recharger II Dual Modal Light Laser I, Standard S Dual Modal Light Laser I, Standard S Dual Modal Light Laser I, Standard S Dual Modal Light Laser I, Standard S Dual Modal Light Laser I, Standard S Dual Modal Light Laser I, Standard S Dual Modal Light Laser I, Standard S Dual Modal Light Laser I, Standard S Small Capacitor Control Circuit I Small Capacitor Control Circuit I Small Capacitor Control Circuit I Cap is stable at around 46% depending on what type of turret frequency crystal is used (multifrequency/standard/infrared/radio). I've got a few other high slot bits of kit I can swap out (salvager etc) should the need arise. Deals with npc pirates quite effectively - kite away from them and kill them out of range, then collect their stuff. I know it's a bit of a n00b setup - there's no ecm type stuff (mostly I have not trained those skills to any decent level) but it's a good slugger with a reasonable armour tank for what I use it for - anything faster than me gets zapped by the lazorz of plenty. Though I nearly lost it the first mission I used it for: having loads of weapons is no substitute for sound tactics and evaluation of your enemy threat - kill those guys with stasis webifyers quickly! Roll on cruiser abilities.

I play eve and more importantly I have been actually getting involved with the RP aspect with the game. CCP is really helping to push the RP element and it does make things interesting.

Get a Bantam. You know how to jetcan mine, right? You don't need any cargo space in your mining boat - just dump all of the ore straight into a jetcan, then come and collect it later in your Sigil or your Bestower or whatever. A Bantam has the same number of High slots as a Sigil, but it has some really nice bonuses to mining yield and Mining Laser cap usage, so you're going to be much more efficient in the long term. Perhaps you already know all this, but from the content of your post I'm assuming you're still relatively new to EVE? Quote:

Bantam is nice, but Osprey with high cruiser skills can outmine even the smaller barge.

Basically the mining thing was for a bit of extra cash. A means to an end as it were; a relatively short term one at that. I found a station buyer that was paying a good whack over the regional rate for scordite, tens of millions of units of it and seeing as my reprocessing skills are still a bit naff at this point, it was easier to sell the ore for a decent profit rather than make a loss refining. Still, all that time hanging about the asteroids in 0.9 space (hedion university school) gave me lots of time to read up on skills/tactics/ship fittings and the like. Plus there's the great EVE radio and chatroom to get involved with. Besides I was waiting for some new skills to train and didn't want to get a pasting before they were finished. So far I have most of the basic and standard certificates in core/defence/gunnery (at least for frigate turrets etc). I figured these were best invested in early... also the learning skills - after I hit 1.6m skill points the 100% training time modifier is out, so I'm planning on using the freebie 100,000 sp that was given in the last server update delay to use on those learning skills - I think most of the basic ones are at L3-4 already anyway. Been using EFT and EVE MON to figure out what is the best ship fitting for my skills and what I should be looking at getting/training next. On the whole I accept that my current skill level makes me rubbish at just about everything lol so at the moment I'm like one of those tenant hill farmers, scratching a miserly standard of living out of next to nothing, always expecting the bank to foreclose on the smallholding whilst wistfully looking down into the valley at all those lush pastures and fat beef and dairy herds, knowing that if I go anywhere near most of it I'll be greeted by the farmer and his gun telling me to 'get orf moy laaand!' ![]()

Not really much of an MMO player. Those things are just chock full of internet tough guys. Yes, we have them on the forums too, but give them the ability to kill your character and they take it to a new level. Really just ruins the experience for me.

Is this game any more exciting to play yet?
Last I tried this game, was a few months after Earth & Beyond was shut down. (which was years ago). From what i could tell, it was an economy simulation in space where you did one of three things. Run repedative missions from some stupid NPC, mining, or gank the people doing either of those activities. I played it for 2 weeks before the boring monotony took the upper hand, and i canceled my account before my first 30 free days had expired. I'ts not like E&B was any less repedative, but at least in that game you could explore some planet surfaces, dock at space stations and get out of your ship and walk around, and stuff like that. Eve had NONE of that. Just rock pounding in space or mindless errand boy missions. ![]() |

i initially went into it hopin for a elite/wing commander type experience but that didnt happen. ive never done any pvp yet and ive been told that adds a new dimension, it is a multiplayer game after all. but the whole game seems a very hands off experience. the winner of any pvp battle will be who has the best/relevant ship fittings and even then all your doin is clicking a button to attack. i think it would be much more engaging if you could actually fly the ship, like in X3 for example. the way i see it, x3 does everthing eve online does + no monthly sub. but every now and again though i get the urge to try it again, thinkin maybe this time it will stick. |
