USA's corruption is bi-partisan.

It is about the only thing the Republicans and Democrats can agree upon it seems.

I wonder if there has ever been an elected government with political parties that was not filled with corruption?

Maybe there is no escaping it?

That's a good question. I guess it's one thing to have one rotten egg. (nixon?), but that whole city is corrupt from stem to stern. I suppose a third party would be nice, but it seems like that just guarantees one party rule, because it splits the opposing party. (see Perot, Nader) Any whoo, I think this trial will expose what absolute one party rule gives us. IMO, some of the principles behind the Constitution were to prevent absolute rule by one group.

Another good example of this kind of corruption, is Portland, OR. These guys get what they deserve.

Maybe a side question off Platypus, are there any big, metro/urban areas that aren't hotbeds of political corruption? If there are, I wonder what is different between them and the corrupt urban areas?

Well if you want to see corruption, head to the local government level.

Perot and Nader failed because they represented the dissatisfied wings of their respective parties. I think for a third party to be successful in the US it would need to draw it's support equally from the centrists of both sides.

A nice moderate party? I might just join that

Of course, currently we have three "Third parties" in the United States and have had them for a while

Constitution Party (the third largest political party in the US by the way)
Green Party
Libertarian Party

and those are just the big "third parties" if you want to consider the smaller "third parties" we have a bunch of them

American First Party
America's Independent Party
American Patriot Party
The American Party
Independent American Party
Prohibition Party
Working Families Party
The New Party
Labor Party
Socialist Party USA
Communist Party USA
Socialist Labor Party
Party for Socialism and Liberation
Progressive Labor Party
Socialist Equality Party
Socialist Workers Party
World Socialist Party of the United States
Workers Party, USA
Workers World Party
Centrist Party
Independence Party of America
Modern Whig Party
Reform Party of the United States of America

It is not that we don't have a "third party" it is more like we have too many "third parties" that can't get organized.

Agree about that one. I just don't like finger pointing. Pot calling the kettle and what not.

You didn't seem to have a problem doing just that in the Reagan thread. Now that the subject is a Democrat suddenly you've developed an aversion to finger pointing?

I didn't start the topic so...

besides theres a difference between criticizing a non shared behavior and doing it for something that is mutual
