SH3Commander you should have.
it adds some features I don't want to miss any more.
among them the "no crew fatigue"-setting.

as for mods, please look here:

Thanks. I installed SH3Commander. Version 3.2 I think. Whatever the uber version was labeled.

I set up some basic options that I thought would be good and rolled a career. Once in there, I set up some realism options just to get things about right. Maybe 59% I think. I left on the auto TDC and the weapons officer. I'll get rid of those later.

I'm about half way to AN56 in a IIA. No contacts so far, but it's early. I plotted a course out at 10kts and made sure I had fuel to get home. Then, I cranked down to 8kts to give me more loiter time in AN56. Now I have time to read the keyboard shortcuts and the rest of the *sparse* manual.

Silly question: In my office, I saw that I had one PO slot and maybe 4 crew member slots open. Should I have filled those? If so, with who/what?

you might, but there's no use for if IIRC.
I just fill up all the important compartments and put 5crew-men into the maintenance+repair. that usually is enough when adding an officer there to.

Only mod at the moment is SH3Commander. I have downloaded GWX, but have not installed it. I want to get a feel for the stock game first.

Also, I'm only on 65% realism. I'm still letting my officers aim the fish for me. I just want to work on intercepts and fuel management for a while.

I'd bet that you will get bored with stock pretty quick and be moving on to one of the super mods pretty quick. That seems to be the common evolution of a SH3/4 player.

Welcome aboard!

nothing wrong with this approach!

to correctly track an enemy's path by sight or by hydrophone is the first and main achievement, IMO
