I am assuming you are using GWX or NYGM mod. If so unless you have a death wish I would avoid the channel like the plague... Its infested with DDs it has mines and nets forcing you towards the center of the channel where the DDs are waiting to rip you a new one.

If you are running SH3 stock then by all means nothing to it.

I play with GWX3,Commander,and a variety of mods,and have already made a safe passage through the channel at the beginning of my patrol.I know I can make it through I just need to know where the mines are expected to be,such as,across the Dover strait.
IF I make it through,it will be my last time through the channel as already I have noticed an increase of patrols across the western channel entrance.
I DO in fact travel the channel in the centre keeping away from the ports,moving decks awash in daylight and surfaced at high speed at night.My last sortie I observed many torpedo boats and small patrol craft,nothing particularly formidable...for now.
