thanks but this is not what I meant, I meant after you start the game, I read everywhere that you need to be in port, fine but then what?
Thanks |

For clarification:
The link Ducimus is giving you is for an application called JSGME (JoneSoft Generic Mod enabler). It is a stand-alone app, and the best method for enabling mods for SH4, or for just about any game out there. (hence the "Generic" part) Download it. Read and follow the instructions. They're fairly simple, but for a beginner it may take some trial and error to get it to work. Took me about a week to get it to work, but that was a Vitsa thing. If you run into any problems, check the JSGME "sticky" thread at the top pf this forum. All the answers are there - just takes a bit of reading to sift them out. Enabling mods "in port" means that you have to be at a point in the game in which you have completed a patrol. Enabling mods while actively on patrol is discoraged and can lead to problems. Always enable "in port". That said, the actual "enabling" portion is done outside of the game on your desktop using the JSGME applicaton - i.e. before you even start the game. Good luck, and hope that helps. If you get totally lost, post your problem. There's plenty of knowledgable people around to help out. ![]() Edit: looks like the JSGME user guide got moved to the SH5 Mods Forum here: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=163447 first line of post 1 Last edited by VonHesse; 04-06-10 at 03:11 AM. |

Thank you VonHesse for the info.
But, this is still not what I meant, I have the mods in the game, that i was able to get done through jsgme, no problem there. My problem is that once that this is done, how do I activate the mod that I want? I dont see anyshort cuts or anything like that, I have tried with the fall of the risun sun mod, alone (1.3 version) then with OM alone as well byr when I get into the game, well, its like normal I still get the "stock game"... . With other mod in other games, you get a shortcut or something like that or you activate the mod within the game but here, nothing at all. And I am going nuts trying to get it done lol, So someone please let me know Thanks Cheers ![]() |

Made sure you have the right folder in you MOD folder. When unzipping files the unzipper sometimes creates a folder to add the folder unzipped folders/files to. If this happens you need to click into this top level folder and get to the actual mod folder. Made sure the folder you are coping into the MOD folder is the one that is just above the DATA folder. |

2. If you are starting a new Career then you will be automatically in port when you start. So enable the MOD and then start the game. 3. Example using JSGME: 4. Select the MOD you want to enable and click the arrow to enable it, wait until it is completely finished. (There will be a loading bar at the bottom of the screen) ![]() 5. When the loading is complete, it will be on the "Activated" side of JSGME. ![]() 6. Start the Game and the MOD will work. Do not enable or disable MODS while the game is running you can end up with a big mess and may need to reinstall the game. I do not have Vista, if you are using Vista I have heard there are issues with Vista not allowing programs to make changes to anything in the Program Files folder, or something like that. So if you do have Vista, let us know and someone will help you with it that knows more about it. Welcome to Subsim!! Peabody

hi,
Ok, so if I understand, while the game is running and when I am into port , then I have to enable the mod ? And not enable it when I have not started the game? Thanks you for letting me know ![]() Hum I just reread again, I guess I cant do that too, and I reread the post before, yes my mods are in a folder called "mods " above the data folder, but when I activate the game nothing happen. Since I am at it, what when I am in the game will tell me that there is a mod? Thanks ![]() Oh and I am running win 7 |

No, you have to NOT be in the game. You finish a patrol and get out of SH4. Then you go into JSGME and activate the mod.
"In Port" simply means that you don't want to save the game and activate a mod while you're at sea. You have to do it between patrols. ![]()

Do you have Vista?
If you've downloaded JSGME and followed the instructions and the mods still aren't bieng enabled even though JSGME shows that they should be, then that sounds like the same problem I had too. Turned out to be an issue with Vista. I am also a bit of a noob when it comes to computers, so I can't explain why Vista is such a problem - only what it took me to fix it. If you do have Vista, then I assume that you installed it in the standard directory that the UBI launcher prompted you to which is "Program Files". Turns out that for some reason, Vista doesn't allow files in the "Program files" to be modified, so you need to uninstall the game and reinstall it in another directory. I installed it directly on my "C-Drive". After that, the mods worked and all was right with the world. Another item with Vista and JSGME. Vista doesn't seem to like JSGME messing around with it's files. I've heard that you need to run JSGME as an "administrator" and also turn your "user account controls"(UAC) off. Eventually, after banging my head against a wall wondering why my mods weren't working when JSGME said they should be I did all three things (changed directory, run JSGME as an administrator, and turned UAC off). I've no idea which one of these things might have been the problem, but after I reinstalled, and did the other things, the mods worked and have continued working with no problem. Try all that, and again, make sure you're following the JSGME instructions properly. Good luck, and let us know how you make out. If we know what fixes your problem, then we can help the next person that runs into it too. Cheers ![]() Couple of threads for reccomended reading: SH4 and Vista instillation:http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=150996 Reinstalling SH4:http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=133290 Edit: Ok, just saw that you don't have Vista, but Windows 7. I've heard (though I'm not sure) that the issue with "Program Files" is still present in 7. Again, good luck! |

Thank you for the detailed infos,
I run 7 and not vista (vista stayed for like 2 hours on my laptop originally ![]() anyway, I am gonna go and read all that, I just did what jsm whatever file how to install and there was one differences, fall of the rising sun when loaded as a mod, jsm created a new folder into my game directory while before it would create it in a temp directory.... But when I ran the game again, I still could not tell any differences (which reminds me "how does one know that a mod is on pls) So I am gonna load Opreation Mun the same way I loaded fall of the rising sun and since this time, its in the atlantic, then i ll know if its installed or not and will get back to my reading, and yes I have used jsm as an admisnistrator While I am at it, what tool to edit .cfg files? I have been looking on the net but... . Once all that is done, since there are so many forums, I will have a couple of more questions in regards to compability between RFB 2.0, fall of the rising sun and OM Thanks again ![]() |
