Then they'll be out of business before you know it. DRM is one thing, but I seriously doubt any PC gamer in their right mind would support something like this. I certainly will not.

We've already bought into merely renting games, example UbiSoft's DRM. It's just the next step.

The next step may well be their last. I shall be drinking a toast while they sink with all hands.

*caugh* EA just announced that they are planning on releasing so called trial versions of their games that allow you to play for about 4 hours. ... Oh, and yeah, you are supposed to pay about 15$ for this ... demo. They did not say whether this will mean you can "update" to the "full" game for a reduced price, yet. If this catches on you can bet both your kidneys that Uplay will look into it as well.

edit: Darn it, to slow again!

You got an eMail, that's it. But not even all got it lol.

But this is exactly what i meant, it is all a preparation to charge you in the future - want another mission - use your account to pay and download, or play it as a browser game while using "UBI points" - which you got by paying for something else. God how i wish they go down with this online requirement model ..

Most FPS games that are coming out are $60 for a 6 hours or so for a single player campaign, so...

Well COD MW 1 and 2 took about 4 hrs to finish. Good to see that you still get a decent full length(for an FPS) experience with Metro 2033. At least the games from the Eastern Front have some longevity to them.

Greetings,
Catfish
I understand your concerns (as you know from simHQ forum).

I'm actually curious if they ever considered (or might consider) in the future to block similar systems from the competition. In theory it should be possible to install UPlay client in such a way that it takes up the same services as EAs Always Online client. So in theory UBI, EA, and whoever else uses an "always online" system might technically be able to block you from using the system of a competitior. While they might not be doing that openly, they could start by making "the other client" crash and have problems. I mean, these tools exsist today - copy protection that stops a game from running if you have Daemon tools or other "crackware" installed is common.

Because obviously their aim is a total strict tieing of THEIR customers to the company. Making sure that customer stays exclusive is a logical step in the future.

Unbelievable. $15 for a 4 hour demo? Totally crazy idea, and even the fanbois are going to have a serious problem with that.

to Clarify, Uplay is an achievment based system much akin to the achievments based system on the xbox360. ubisoft are simply rewarding you with somthing physically new in your game, not just gamerscore card points. whilst it may not make sense for a title based on the sim end of things or even an exclusive pc based game, its a nice unique idea that gets a clap from me. just a little reward system for playing the game thats all.
