Default English on the ropes

Maybe we can win. On my sixth patrol which began December 23 1939 with me having around 200K tons, I ran across a jewel coming right at me in the fog on Jan 3 1940. A Queen Elizabeth Battleship 31KTN which I promptly sank (58 35N 2 52W and continued on my way. Upon returning to port I was awarded with an Iron Cross 1st to go with my IC2. I was also given command of a VIIC, so much for realism. Still not sure what the boat number is.

Then on my way back to the Western Approaches just to the west of Scapa Flow I run into a Royal Sovereign Battleship being escorted by ten destroyer. Submerged, slid in and capped his ass as well. Another 31KTN of warship and now thanks to the new boat I still have ten eels left. Maybe I can finish off the 100K mission as well. So then what? Does it give me a vacation till June?

If I keep at this

Rip pace their won't be any Battleships in the Royal Navy by the end of the war.

They will actually respawn. Sank the Hood and Elizabeth. Both were back on my next patrol.

Go to Scapa, sink a BB, save, load, new BB in the old spot, ready to be sunk. I tested this in a new career (not to taint my main one) and managed to sink... are you ready?.... 12 battleships in one patrol.

I'm still amazed by the tonnage requirements, such as 50-100k for one patrol! That's just pure fantasy, if U-boats had been sinking this much with each patrol, Germany would have won the war, no question.

You don't need to sink that much in ONE patrol. You have a deadline. If you don't gain enough Mario Stars (ups, i mean Iron Crosses), the campaign will just take a different route.
I found it extremely funny that I was told to sink one carrier in the north of england. Well, I sunk 3 carriers in the S-W of england in the same patrol, without any save/load trick (yeah... don't ask how, I had something like 20 escorts in a 10 mile radius). The game isn't that picky about where you sink ships, as long as you sink them.

I'm not so sure that it is a bug. Arent some of these ships crucial to continuing the 'plot' ?

It still seems like too much to me, but I assume that this is their way of making it difficult? If so, I guess they should have tried something else.

I have 600k tons sunk at the end of November 39, 4 short patrols to the Channel and one to Scapa. I haven't yet received my Knight's Cross (but I did get 2 iron crosses 1'st class ). No tricks involved, no saves, no loads, no resupplies. Just Map Contacts and I use that only to counteract the blind watch crew. I always close it up after I get a contact. I've even switched to the new Hydros which don't work on the surface. The game is filled with juicy task forces (not the 2 patrol craft Task Forces of old) and unescorted convoys. 4 deck gun shots to the engines are enough to stop any ship and then 1 magnetic in the stern to sink it, point blank range.
Did I also mention that 1 eel is enough to sink a 30k ton BB if you hit it just in front of the funnels?

And yes, the leaderboard is a fat joke. It needs to be much more detailed, with difficulty settings, time of the war, best patrol, possibility to leave a message and so on...

Difficult?

Oh, by the way, if you have trouble with escorts, save, and continue to load until the weather gets foggy. Then you can surface and zoom through the blind escorts at up to 500m going at flank I'm sure Topp is thinking "why didn't I think of that?!"

Now that is screwed up! I remember that we were told specifically if you sink something you wouldn't see it again. WTF?

It's so very unfortunate they didn't improve this.

Leaderboard was irretrievably broken 2 days before the game came out.

Not only that, but - and I assume this is consistent for everyone - all my tonnage and # ships sunk totals from previous patrols are doubled.

The visuals in this game are really nice - right up there with games in other genres from the last 2 or 3 years - but other than that I think it's really sad that bugs and poor design render this game inferior in just about every other way to any flavor of super-modded SH3.

Hmmm....well they did something.

I stumbled over this while I was digging through savegame files:

Code:

[CampaignProgress.UniqueShipsStatus 1]
Name=HMS Suffolk
ClassName=CAHMSSuffolk
Active=true
Dead=false
[CampaignProgress.UniqueShipsStatus 2]
Name=HMS Barham
ClassName=BBQueenElizabeth
Active=true
Dead=false
[CampaignProgress.UniqueShipsStatus 3]
Name=KM Schlesien
ClassName=BBSchleswigHolstein
Active=true
Dead=false
[CampaignProgress.UniqueShipsStatus 4]
Name=KM Schleswig-Holstein
ClassName=BBSchleswigHolstein
Active=true
Dead=false
[CampaignProgress.UniqueShipsStatus 5]
Name=HMS Malaya
ClassName=BBQueenElizabeth
Active=true
Dead=false
[CampaignProgress.UniqueShipsStatus 6]
Name=
ClassName=BBSchleswigHolstein
Active=false
Dead=false
[CampaignProgress.UniqueShipsStatus 7]
Name=HMS Ark Royal
ClassName=CVArkRoyal
Active=false
Dead=false
[CampaignProgress.UniqueShipsStatus 8]
Name=HMS Courageous
ClassName=CVGlorious
Active=true
Dead=false
That's from Campaignprogress.cfg in the savegame folder named for your captain. Have no idea if it's functional, or if it can be added through mods, but something was planned, anyways.
