I own and have played SH3, SH4 and SH5. At 100% realism (i.e. no external views, no map updates, realistic sensors, limited fuel, dud torpedoes. etc.), I find SH5 stock is as challenging and realistic as SH3 or SH4 stock.

We are also discovering many under the hood improvements to the simulation aspects of SH5.

but then you don't own the game,... do you?
Hi

Many user controls and instruments have been stripped away or appear to be broken. Small features such as depth under keel, opening tube doors, a rudder indicator, battery indicator, a fuel guage, a simulation rate indicator, for example. And often no appropriate dialogue functions to find out this information. I searched the motor room for a battery indicator but the gauges in there are non-functional. Also various missing functions such as return to course, and so on. There is the avoidance of nautical terms, like "Ahead Flank" and so on, no doubt because many people don't know that "flank" means.

I'm glad to hear there's a lot of stuff under the hood to play with, and I hope that mod developers can do something with it. But I don't think modders should be required to fix things like the rudder indicator. I look at that rudder indictaor and I think, was it meant to be like that, or is it a bug?

No, I don't own the right to play the game.

again 100% false.

again false, mine works fine.

there must be a problem with your copy of the game...

I haven't heard from anyone else yet that they have a working rudder indicator. If any the other stuff is there then I couldn't find it, and it shouldn't be difficult to find. I mean, if I couldn't find it then your casual gamer is hardly going to be able to. Unfortunately I had access to the game only for a few hours and now I don't.

I hope it that in a few months time both Ubisoft and the modding community can do something about it, and getting rid of that outrageous DRM would be a good start. I would even buy a copy if they lose the DRM.

Could the highlighted sentence be the reason that you have the bugs?

It wasn't a pirate copy if that's what you think. I wouldn't even know how to find a pirate version. This is the problem with DRM - a bunch of people out there are probably using cracked versions and enjoying the game while those who have bought it had to suffer problems like my nephew. It was the same with Starforce when that came out, but it wasn't nearly half as bad to have the DVD in the drive all the time.

My nephew bought SH5 & I played with it on his laptop for a couple of hours. He was very disappointed with it and now he's returned it. He has not the fastest laptop, although it did meet the minimum requirements, but the nasty thing was my brother's internet connection is not so good so this was the main reason that made it unplayable. He's new to the genre too. I had hoped to test out my torpedo calculator in the game but now I don't have that possibility but if it works in SHIII and SHIV it should work in SHV.

The rudder indicator is a known issue in the game, and as I remember, it showed either 1 degree port, or 1 degree starboard, or hard-a-port, or hard-a-starboard. As for all the other stuff if it's there I never found out where, and I checked the forum a couple of times to find things like the echo sounder, compass and battery and so on.

Ahh with you - sorry jumping to conclusions there

Tbh not too sure about the rudder indicator as I wasn't aware that there was one. For manouvers I use the compass add-on to steer the boat that seems to work quite well, the other mod that selects "return to plotted course" is another must have IMO.

I just keep trawling the mods forum, we have to remember also that it's only been a week and that another patch might (should) be on it's way. The "out of the box" controls you are given to manouver the boat are very poor IMO
