I copied the PDF manual to my laptop so i can view it while i play the game. Whoever said you have to be connected to the internet to view the PDF is totally wrong.

Just right click and explore the disk and you can open it to download to another cpu or laptop.

BTW, my Toyota will shut off if i disable On Star. Im pissed.

This "experienced fan's view" is that it is a good thing to read the manual... even that manual, before jumping in.

The lack of the same control structure identical to the previous iterations of the series is not actually a bug.

And what, exactly, has the fact that the manual points out which keys you need to be familiar with to play the game properly got to do with it's failure as "an insight into submarine warfare for the second world war."

The manual is pretty bad, even by post-SH1 standards, but a perusal of it would have solved the OP's problems.

JCC

The control structure has been documented well on here and the original post and his second I cant see if it stresses that he cant understand the new controls or he feels he has no control. And that understandable as there is a few threads detailing what players feel about this. Heading and Depth under keel, Compass, Clock etc.

Cant defend what does look like a rant be it the original post or your confused good self jumping to your own conclusions on other peoples behalf’s. I did read his post thank you and the reference to the Bugs was regarding his heading “This is a joke”

Never said anything about control changes being a bug, or that reading the manual was the experienced players view……I said the experience players on here said it looks to be poorly done.

As for the Manual, be nice to set the up the game, I used to love the old manuals Elite being a example but I guess its going the way there will be no boxed games just Downloads and this constant connection to the server bull if we just sit back and take it. Is it too much to ask for a Manual that also gives a wee bit of history and tell the story of the Sub war that your intending to enter. There was so many good Sub tactics used in the war heroic stories of the actions of these brave men that fought, not all new to the game will know this and I’d hate to think players set off on there missions with a “Tin can Ally” attitude

Rushy kids run to the store 2 days before the official release and get the game, try playing for half hour, come to subsim and bitch about it. For those, go play Crysis.

The rest of us, buy the game 3 months after release, when we already have tons of mods around to make the game a lot more enjoyable, and then we stick around, we play a bit, mod a bit, exchange ideas on how to make it decent and work our arses off to make it happen.

Two years from now, the game will be so awesome, that the rushy kid will hear about it from his friend, will re-install, download all the latest mods and be satisfied by it.

There is a "glory" behind all this, and the rushy kid won't ever understand.

Got a seven year old here that has been weaned on games that have graphics and physics that I could not have even dreamed about as a kid, wants instant kills on his Xbox and playstation but that seems to be what games are about these days.

Sad but true. Developers seem to only cater to the ADD generation now. Simulation gaming, hell, PC gaming in general, is almost non existent.

*Sigh* It was a JOKE. Some people are far too serious on here.

been playing with it and the movement around the sub is waht ticks me off. It is cumbersome and unnecessary. I like station positions with icons similar to sh3 and 2. gotta wait for modders to come up with a solution.

What makes you think I must push the good aspects of a game?

It came as a BOMBSHELL when I ran my first historical engagement. Attempted to tap a few good well known short cut keys (SH4) and NOTHING WORKED. Now panicked, I went straight to the F keys in hopes of jumping right into a few stations, and as you might have guessed, that didn't work either.

Was guessing/hoping that maybe someone from the dev team read your preview and had FIXED all that stuff for the final release. So it appears I got the same thing you did--a big surprise.

My main concern was why you didn't have a complete breakdown like me and raise the ALARM as it is justified here. DRM aside, we needed a functioning boat, not some cheesy pretty graphic slide show.

To sum it up: SH4 meets PS3 = SH5

I am NOT blaming you 100% Neal for my dissatisfaction. You did your job and you raised some good points, but had it been me writing the preview, I would have clearly stated that the next release is a clear deviation from previous games which has me quite concerned at this point, and should be redeveloped from the ground up to give us everything we had in SH3/4 and more.

Isn't that the whole point of continuing a great game? Give us the same plus more. I think the devs would have really listened to you had you demanded it. Didn't you have a ton of influence in the creation of SH4? If I recall, it was delayed a few times because you had concerns in it's development and what the SIM COMMUNITY wanted (?). Why didn't you do that with SH5 or did they, like you said, have a "black out" with details?

Your REviews are great and it will be interesting to read your final REVIEW of SH5.
I pointed out what I thought about buying SH5 on Day 1 several times, you may have missed that. And about preordering.

I cannot demand that the devs or Ubisoft listen to me. It's not my money invested in the game development or my paycheck that depends on the game. I can offer my ideas and concepts, my feedback, if they want it. If they do not, that's their perogative. And to be fair, any one person on the dev team--artists, programmers, designers--is smarter than me when it comes to making a computer game. I really do appreciate when they accept input from me, but in the end, it's their game to make.

I'm frequently shaking my head over the tone and lack of sense displayed on these forums by some people. It's appalling that there are so many people in the world who simply go to pieces if a game does not meet their expectations. It's sad, really.

I would argue that the ADD generation covers a lot of people, older than me and younger. They are the ones who play a game for 2 days and then bombard internet forums with hysterical rants....

Neal, I know you can't reimburse the guy for the game, but you might at least consider giving him a refund on that preview you did. Or partial refund, at least. Wait, that would be the same thing. Yeah. Full refund, I guess. I dunno. Just a suggestion.
