UBI made it public months ago that there would be no player control in this version. At least that was my understanding, from what I've read.

LOL, yep the JOKE is on me; EVERYONE else knew this was going to be some kind of movie simulation. I thought the whole purpose of continuing a software title was to KEEP THE OLD GOOD stuff, and ADD some MORE GOOD stuff.

Example in point: Adobe CS4; All the OLD GOOD stuff is in it and anytime they IMPROVE on the TITLE (Adobe Photoshop), the user is not blindly fumbling around wondering how to use it.

Give it a new chance with this mod -> http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=163208.
I think that mod gives you the same 'control' as in SH3.

well, that was right out of the heart; you have points though, but with MINIMUM of patience you can patch your crap game to a reasonable sim,

as far as Neals input I woudn't judge that hard, he will give us an honest assesment in no time

*sigh* The more I play SH5, the more I have to agree with the original poster. SH5 should have never been released in this condition. Never.

Well you can't expect high quality of the game that comes from company like Ubisoft.. They were always lacking of time to complete any of SH series. Might be the reason of poor budget and project development period planing and this is of course the inner problems of UBI. To complete the game and most importantly to deliver it to customers in the shape of usable product is a must for any self respecting company. There is little who wants to buy the unfinished product with accompany of even more stupid approach of digital rights security like DRM. You can't expect much of budget income as game-dev company with such careless work.
So is SH5 a Joke ? If softly said - Joke as least..

Everyone has strong opinions regarding SH5. I am into a career now and this thing is really growing on me. The only mods I am running are Ducimus' AI and Sub physics. I modded the commands file.

I am quite happy with SH5 overall. 8/10

I'm glad I didn't rush out and buy it also. I nearly did, but the DRM system is what stopped me.

The thing is, there is no incentive for me to go and purchase this game. If it was just a case of bugs and unfinishedness, then I would buy it to support the developers and the genre, and put up with it for a year or so until a compreshensive set of mods addressed all the problems. But I think I speak for many of us when I say:

Why would I want to support a dumbed down game with a DRM system that sucks?

By buying this game now I would be supporting that trend. I'm happy with SHIII and IV for now. If modders manage to do something with SH5 then it will be worth picking up from the bargain bin after the DRM mechanism has been removed. But that will be in a year or two, and by then only us serious simmers will be thinking about it.
