If you manually bring it right back to the dock where you left from. You'll get a severe renown penalty, sentenced the "overdo divergence" punishment. All renown earned that patrol will be lost. The developers never did it, and no one else should either.

Done it twice... got to be a bug.

Sorry, now i'm just confused. You get penalised for bringing it back as well as aborting mid sea?
I also play at 92% realism.

Stuff it,i'll bring it back manually and park it in the nearest disabled bay.

Paul....the renown for returning to base has NEVER worked, not only in GWX but also the stock/vanilla game.

I couldnt remember Jim.There has always been confusion over this for as long as I can remember
So I should be able to abort the patrol once I am satisfied that all I can do has been done.
Case closed (hopefully)

Because of a bug, ending the patrol within 30 km of the end base doesn't give you any renown (the game designers wanted it that way, but there's a bug and it has never been fixed, and it cannot unless you have the source code so no modder can fix it).

Abort it wherever/whenever you want Paul, be it within 30km or any figure either side....the return to base renown has never worked mate.

Correction: Return to base does not give you any ADDITIONAL renown.

You still earn renown for sinking ships.

I can confirm that.
I never have lost any "ship sinking renown" while teleporting back to base.

But if you abort your patrol just because you have no eels left it is not very realistic, is it? You are evading the dangerous journey home (especially if you are unarmed) and a lot of boats suffered on the homeward run. I often vary the in game realism depending on mood etc., but I never consider the patrol over until I have seen my boat safely back home. There is also the fuel angle to consider. Keeping an abort patrol option open means you can be casual with fuel use during the patrol. I've seen the odd patrols where I've done too many flank speed chases then the only way I could get home was to use slow on the surface then submerged as soon as batteries were charged even when out of range of Allied aircraft etc.

Was it the first patrol of a career? There is a bug in the game where if you modify the sub, before the first patrol renown for sunken ships isn't calculated.

So, if that's the case, you were punished long before the patrol began.

If anyone feels cheated by the loss of renown they can simply calculate what the amount was and put it back in via the DeltaRenown method.

I do come back each time before ending patrol.
I am missing that patrol renown.

I started with 500 renow, I'm at patrol 8 and up to patrol 7
all I have been able to gather from my type II is 500 renown.
I'm at 1000 and it's March 1940... I will never get the type VIIB
which requires 2500 renown

How much should we get each time we bring the boat back
to base ? How can I add the missing renown exactly ?

I think there are two bugs.

First one is the patrol date start. If you want to do modifications to your sub, you must do them just before starting a patrol or the starting date of patrol will not be calculated properly. Always do sub changes before going to a new patrol then.

The second bug I don't recall exactly. I think it is related to the first patrol. You must not do any change to the sub before going on first patrol. You go first patrol, come back. If you do any changes before going to first patrol I think you get 0 renown even if you sink ships.

Don't touch your sub before 2nd patrol. Only do changes before going on a patrol. not after.

I knew about not modifying the game mid patrol and to only do it before a patrol, but I was unaware of problems arising before 1st patrol.I believe before my 1st patrol I installed 2 simple mods to my game,1 was a small moon mod,and the other was a mod that removed the metal rim from around the scopes. So far I have noticed no problem with my current game.
Thanks for the info though,it could prove more relevant with major game changes and not so much with small changes such as in my case.I have also just installed Racerboy's SH4 effects to my game and this was done (while still in the base screen) BEFORE I left port for patrol 2
