Renown for manually returning to base?

I apologize for asking what has probably been asked a thousand times now,but is there ANY benefit/bonus for bringing the UBoat back manually?,or is it ok to abort when satisfied you have done all you can in a patrol?,without being penalised I mean.

Thanks.

With 100% realism if you don't get within 25km of base before exiting you abandon your career. Sort of.

I believe the renown bonus for RTB was bugged in stock and wasn't fixed, so you can teleport without consequence, BUT, beyond a certain realism level (100% for sure) the teleport feature is disabled, only allowing you to abandon the career. I prefer having to return to base despite having no ammo left as sometimes you might get picked up by a destroyer, aircraft or convoy escorts and have to evade, just like I suspect they did in real life.

For me, the game doesn't end when I run out of weapons to fire. How you play is up to you.

If you manually bring it right back to the dock where you left from. You'll get a severe renown penalty, sentenced the "overdo divergence" punishment. All renown earned that patrol will be lost. The developers never did it, and no one else should either.

Done it twice... got to be a bug.

Sorry, now i'm just confused. You get penalised for bringing it back as well as aborting mid sea? :06:
I also play at 92% realism.

Stuff it,i'll bring it back manually and park it in the nearest disabled bay.

Paul....the renown for returning to base has NEVER worked, not only in GWX but also the stock/vanilla game.

I couldnt remember Jim.There has always been confusion over this for as long as I can remember :-?
So I should be able to abort the patrol once I am satisfied that all I can do has been done.
Case closed (hopefully)

Because of a bug, ending the patrol within 30 km of the end base doesn't give you any renown (the game designers wanted it that way, but there's a bug and it has never been fixed, and it cannot unless you have the source code so no modder can fix it).

Abort it wherever/whenever you want Paul, be it within 30km or any figure either side....the return to base renown has never worked mate.

Correction: Return to base does not give you any ADDITIONAL renown.

You still earn renown for sinking ships.

Case re-opened :haha:

But if you abort your patrol just because you have no eels left it is not very realistic, is it? You are evading the dangerous journey home (especially if you are unarmed) and a lot of boats suffered on the homeward run. I often vary the in game realism depending on mood etc., but I never consider the patrol over until I have seen my boat safely back home. There is also the fuel angle to consider. Keeping an abort patrol option open means you can be casual with fuel use during the patrol. I've seen the odd patrols where I've done too many flank speed chases then the only way I could get home was to use slow on the surface then submerged as soon as batteries were charged even when out of range of Allied aircraft etc.

I can confirm that.
I never have lost any "ship sinking renown" while teleporting back to base.

The patrol isn't over until I can hear the band welcoming my boat back!

I just get bored puttering across the open ocean. The thing I'm mostly interested in is the action. :)

Plus my game-playing time is so precious I don't want to waste it.
