While subsim was down, i found these little gems i wanted to share:

Quote:
It was frightening and yet somehow awe-inspiring to watch them march off of this conceptual cliff with such steadfast confidence. It's like a menacing and Kafkaesque version of the Emperor's New Clothes where all of the people are screaming, "Dude, you are naked!" to the heedless king. The lemming comparison ceases to be adequate. Lemmings go over cliffs because they are oblivious. Ubisoft went over this cliff because they decided that going over a cliff was a now a core part of their business plan.

I struggled with this comic for a long time. I eventually realized I wouldn't be able to make fun of this in any traditional way because Ubisoft was already a joke.

Three reasons Ubisoft's DRM is good

-----------------------------

Watch this starting at 3:32
Gabe Newell of valve gives his two cents on piracy, copy protection, and why its not a problem for valve. Ubisoft should take note of this.

All taht said, i think ill write my own review of the game. It may surprise you what i think of the game itself.

...And that is why Valve is EPIC LISTEN UP UBISOFT! Take care of the customers, make games so damn good no-one will WANT to pirate them and forget this iron-curtain, gestapo crap DRM!

Default Sorry ubi, not getting in my pockets this time....

Ya know, for sh3 and 4 i just went out and bought it day one of release cause i love sub simulations, and enjoyed them thoroughly... For sh5 i decided to wait for a change as difficult as i knew that would be from all the drm discussions before it was released... Now a week or so after release i come in here to read some feedback and I am so dam glad I didn't put any money in ubi's pocket by purchasing sh5...

I could care less if there are tons of graphical bugs or other bugs but still allow you to play and know they will eventually get fixed... but when this drm connection window pops up as often as everyone is reporting and wont let you even play that's where i draw the line....

I can only hope that there is a majority of others like me that decided to wait and decided to not purchase this load of crap they are trying to shove down everyone's throat like obamas health care crap...

I found it hard to believe people were saying best buy and others were taking them back no questions asked... this is unheard of... once software is opened its tough s hit...its yours no matter how much you cry... companies just don't take back open software usually...

This all really sucks cause this means sh4 will probably be the last good sim to be produced for a lonnnng time....even if ubi notices the dismal sales and refunds they'll still introduce sh6 or other games with drm... Its friggin laughable but disappointing at the same time... As one of the other posters said, they just blatantly walked right over the edge of a cliff....I hope they fire the exec's that decided this drm crap would fly when it sank soon as it hit the water from commissioning lol

I'm guessing that the kind of questions you were asking - could not have been answered without a risk of a banhammer.

So nobodies talking

That's exactly what the deleted message on the Ubi forums fixed. All you need to do is edit some files to unlock the missions. They don't get downloaded from Ubi, they are already in the game. Of course, you can also cheat this way and for example, skip the early campaigns and move straight to the later ones, it's basic modding stuff like adding renown to your captain or upgrading your crew's stats in SH3.

As for what this thing does...it enables anyone to play the entire campaign without connecting to UBI. That means both the legitimate owners and those with a "bad" copy. We can't openly talk about how to do it due to forum rules though. But yes, it does work, you can play offline and UBI is lying when they say the "bad" version is nothing but a demo

That raises an interesting question as the things that need changing are indeed no different from any mod. All you do is unlock the campaigns manually. The guys who came up with it also uncovered intersting tec-stuff related to campaigns and missions in general, yet we can't talk about it because it can also be used in the pirated version(like any other mod).

A little bird told me that it's the same with that 'uncracked' pirate version. Just have to skip the training mission apparently and you get the missions.
