I got a bargain. I didn't get ripped off at all.
I didn't buy it.

It is, however, the fist time I have seen it this bad.

It is that damn quantity over quality policy so popular among big companies. Finish one project on time - doesn`t matter if it`s buggy or not, it can be patched, people will buy it anyway and there are new projects to come.

Meh... :/ I was working for some time in the game industry myself and at least I stoppep having delusions.

I seem to be the only one how still remembers SH4. A game so messed up, its still (4 year's later!) not playable. If it wasn't for the then-nice graphics SH4 would have died a guresome death at the bottom of the bargain bin. SH5 in compare is a pristine and flawless product.

I know alot of you guys are angry, but lets keep it leveled.

Three years, not four, and it is very playable. I still have a few complaints, but I play it all the time and have a lot of fun.

Sorry Steve.... no disrespect here....but I stopped playing SH 4 after I was dumb enough to buy the SH4 expansion.

Graphically... the sky moving at 1,000kts over me, a sub that floats out of the water in rough seas, "ghost" crewmen with missing eyes and that were translucent in fog..etc etc... was just enough to ruin the immersion.

Gameplay wise.... its OK. AI...still dumb as a box of rocks. My modus operandi is to torpedo a convoy and go right under them to avoid the escorts. The only time they are a threat is if I surface in visual range.

GWX still has my full attention when I want a sub sim that FEELS like a dangerous metal tube surrounded by 100's of psi of water and ticked off enemy above.

I just recently tried SH4 and although I patched it I still had the same problems I had three (sorry 'bout that ) years ago. I still had CTD's, I still didn't get no Mission updates and I still served with the "Event Horizon"-esque eyeless crew.

I'm sure that with mods its quite enjoyable, but in my opinion in its "final" (i.e. patched) Vanilla state SH4 is still far worse than SH5 in its current state.

Nope... your not the only one. Which is why I didnt run out and pre-order. I did pre-order (or buy on first week) SH3 and SH4..... after SH4 I said never again.

Im hearing the same arguments and counter-arguments about the game I heard with SH3 and especially SH4.

Game is half baked and not finished (argument)

But the graphics make it worth it (counter argument)

or my favorite

If you didnt run out and buy this at release Ubi wont make the series anymore! Be Happy there is even a SH5 (another worthless counter)

Meanwhile UBI thinks the market for a good sub-sim is dried up because they didnt sell 1,000,000 copies of SH5 the first week. Selling even less than SH4 did and that was less than SH3 did.

UBI doesnt DARE ask itself WHY intial sales are lower.... they just know they are lower.

I can honestly say I'd blame their marketing department on that. I didn't see any ads, commercials, heck even blurbs in the gaming pages I go to. Well not until I saw the articles appear on the DRM issues.

To be honest found out about SH5 quite by accident while browsing the "soon to be released" section at my local Gamestop. Found this forum shortly after (And also found out about the U-Boat add on for SH4 through this forum)

I don't feel ripped off. I think I had pretty realistic expectations going in, having seen the same thing with the earlier titles. I mainly bought it early so I could fiddle with the files.

However, I did buy the Gold Edition expecting the 'strategy guide' to be what the manual should have been. The strategy guide is as big a joke as the manual. I do feel I wasted my money there.

HeLLo
Hélas, the game is unplayable out of the box with that poor manual. It's just a shame.
But, now, I've to practice and forget that poor impression.
Good luck all

I agree. There were complaints about /3 and /4 when they were released, and well deserved, too. But, sheesh, I've never seen this level of frustration, bitterness, and anger before as regards SH5....

This game is unfinished ... I love SH4, and if SH5 had the same commands available then I would be much happier. I think SH5 will turn out to be great with mods in the future, but without mods, well ... You can always hope that there will be a major patch to fix/ add the things that we expected to be there in the first place, but we'll see ... to UBIsoft

The reality is this-
If your'er sick of unfinnished games (& DRM), buy a PS3 or a 360.
As a mainstream games platform the PC is something of a sinking ship....

we all want a finely polished sim out the box with no DRM..... but its not the 90's anymore,
its 2010 and simulators are unpopular. casual, retro & mobile gaming is where the money is at.

Such is life.
