Default Perhaps we need a new company to take the lead....

One thing that promotes evolution is competition, and Ubi has the lead in sub simulation because... well, there are no competitors at all, we have nothing to compare their work against.

Don´t get me wrong. SH games are not bad at all, they are just underdeveloped. On each reencarnation we just get a few new things here and there before is put in the hoven, and thats all, the same people forming a line (again) just to buy yesterday bread in a different package.

So, what if another company shows up and take sub simulation to the next level? Want the full war, all sides and subs? You got it. Want ALL the tech involved to properly command your sub? You got it. Want a NEW engine up to date according to new hardware available? you got it.

Perhaps this kind of simulation is not profitable enough to promote competition, I really don´t know. But for God´s sake, I would give and eye just to see a company like DCS developing a sub sim (play Black Shark and you´ll know what Im talking about).

Perhaps we all should be thankfull because Ubi did not drop the serie leaving us with no sim to play with. Its up to you.

Will I buy SHV? Of course I will. Yesterday bread is still better than no bread at all.

I don't think that such approach will be a realistic scenario for a commercial company.

Even with their best intentions to do a proper job, giving everything that is needed to satisfy the community, at some point there is money involved.
That company needs to do research, pay developers and testers, pay for the rent for the building, setup an IT infrastructure to promote, sell and offer patches to their customers. All this needs to be maintained and thus costing dollars.

Can you imagine how expensive the game will be?
Open source is perhaps a more realistic option.

You`ll never know when another developer comes with a subsim.

Look at DCS Black Shark, Red Orchestra, Il2 stormovik and Rise of flight.

These sims / games are superb compared to the western developers.

With Ubi trying to stick DRM up our arses, a different company would be very welcome.

Maybe the Devs share this thought.

Then, the Danger from Below gang are already working on a new game.

Ubi can auto-DRM their collective arses.

You guys are lucky you get anything at all.

Having a Subsim at all at this point is a good thing. Look at the Modern Combat Air Simulation.

Its just about dead.

No money in these sims, not like FPS or RTS type games. So be thankful you get something you ungrateful little wusses.

Because the alternative is you complaining you have nothing to play. Because nobody has the courage to make a subsim anymore.

And by the way The people making our subsim only have limited options on who will publish the game for them, and give them the backing. DRM aside UBI does a lot for the Military Side of Simulations. Like them or not.

Hmm... maybe the guys at Storm Eagle Studios could do something like this.

After all, they would be moving from high-detail strategy to high-detail simulation.

What we really need is a multi-millionaire/billionaire member to bank roll our own subSIM.

This is probably the oldest rule in the book.

Right now UBI has monopole over WWII sub games, and they can dictate the rules. If they had a competition, the product quality would rise without a doubt.

If it is doable and does it pay off? That is another question...

SH V is a no buy for me. The DRM solution coupled with lax animation department just proves to me that it's time to let go. So yea, I agree. SH III was fantastic. SH IV was something of a disaster on release day, patched up after a few weeks and SH V doesn't look like it's worth my monies.

I would of course wellcome any new company that wants to develop submarine (or even naval) games, but I would like to point out that there would probably not be any competition at all. Why?

Because when you buy a car or a house you must choose, but when you buy videogames, same as music or books, you will not be choosing unless you are really, really low on budget. For me, there was never a choice between buying Silent Hunter 1 and Aces of the Deep: I bought BOTH!!
