I'm sorry to hear that. I didn't have any problems with my original, and the Gold version doesn't require it.

Default No CD needed - then why do I have to buy a box with a CD in it

Hmm, No CD needed - then why do I have to go to the shop to buy a colourful box with an unnecassary CD in it -

Why not go the whole way and simply put the whole thing online and charge a monthly or annual subscription fee

Not my preferred method!!! - but does seem to be the logical thing - Just thinking out loud

You cannot use your bought and paid for product unless they say so?

Requiring an internet connection is little different than pay to play.

I encourage all not to support this type of DRM.

Though not customer friendly, Ubi still wants to be loved by you. So they give you something to touch and get that warm and fuzzy feeling

Are there numbers available on how many ppl suffered from cd/dvd detection problems?
Just out of curiosity.

If I wanted an MMO, I would buy an MMO. At least with these, a permanent internet connection is logical!

This NO CD in drive thing has to be one of the lamest, weakest reasons to be collared by the neck to such a draconian system. I can`t believe people think `Not having CD = Losing my independence with my game` is good.

How much effort does it take to pop the thing in the Cd tray and run, then pop it back in the box or just leave it?

It`s almost like having the government stick surveillence cameras in your home so you don`t have to keep an eye on the kids!

This DRM is wrong and should be illegal. UBI is trying it on, using legal loopholes.

And by the way, this is happening BECAUSE of spyware like Steam. They`ve seen how many of you lap it up and now UBI are doing their own, more extreme version. But Steam also touted the `No need to use CD` crap as well.

This is how these things happen, because YOU, the customer, LET it happen. It will only get worse unless YOU, the customer, do not pay them for this DRM crap.

A little harshly put, but I basically agree with what you said. And of course pushing the 'no dvd needed!!!' is ridiculous and something just smells dishonest about it.
The thing is many gamers are accepting it (DRM/OSP) simply because they want to play the next big game. So they turn a blind eye. "Hey I'm already connected to the net anyways right, so no big deal". A little bit like the junkie who will justify anything to continue his habit, no matter how wrong or flawed the reasoning.
I just wonder how many gamers would agree to be forced to give their name, address and phone number to Ubi (for anti-piracy reasons) then tell themselves "Hey, they can get all that from the phone book anyways right?".

This is now the thank that I get for buying all previous Silent Hunter original games....It was hard enough to get the updates of all previous SH's for the games to work properly. Ubisoft is the same as Microsoft, they want top $ for software but ppl that buy's it must sit with errors and programming bugs. Then your pc must send them fault reports to fix it...why not pay ppl to test the software properly before they sell it like PS3 and other consoles.

Think after this I'll wait for a "censored" of SH5 to come out and buy the "censored" game!! Hope this is a lesson for Ubisoft, cause not all ppl playing games have Inet connections.

OOHH you are so lucky to just get Keelhauled by Webster for he has a Nurse

that has the Needle for guys like you.

Why do you think I edited your post with censored for?

Webster can be mean ( shutter ).

Sorry if I`m harsh, but i am really sick of the blind acceptance and lack of aforethought.

And you`re right. It is like the junkie who just accepts worse and worse for the next big fix. I bet some would even sign away their name and number and even sell themselves for the next big game eventually and not think about it until the men came to collect at their front door!
