The iceberg thing is a myth and let the truth now be known that it was indeed a German sub that sent her to the bottom.

Does anyone know if one can safely dive below them?

It's something I always wondered, but afraid to "seek the truth" about.

Not sure if it's the lame difficulty settings I have in place when I play SH3 (I'm at a whopping 3% ), but I can still use my periscope when submerged below periscope depth. *shrug* Dunno. Do higher difficulty settings cause seal blowouts at depths much greater than periscope depth (as in DW)?

If not, then by all means raise that periscope when you dive to the great dark depths of the sea and observe the icebergs as you majestically careen off of their underwater projections (or not... you most probably are a much better skipper than I).

On a sidenote, I love DW's High Frequency sonar at the 'scope.

Of course you can. Just try it...........Just remember, there is much more ice under the water than above. Being from the North you would know that, wouldn't you.....?

Ja, unfortunately.
Just had to ask because hitting one while submerged has unpleasantly crossed my mind.
This time I was kind-of hoping SH3 messed up.
But no, I'm not brave enough to try it deliberately.

The real question is how much tonnage do you get for sinking one?

8 torpedos and 200 deckgun rounds didn't even dent one

IIRC they're moddeled as environmentals and therefore indestructible, just like the dolphins and whales.

Thought that its impossible to moddel something as enviromental and add course, name and make it possible to indentify it at the same time...

lol you wont sink one
They have no damage model

When the game was released ( and after patching ) the Icebergs never worked - that is they never moved

After various attempts and ways of trying I think was Rubini who did it that way
Classifying them as a ship not only got them going but also meant your crew gave you an audible warning they were there so you didnt plough into one and if submerged you could hear them and save a crash also

Now i wish you could kill the dolphins and whales. Get blubber for a profit back home and some meat for the crew, eh?
