Maybe just a transfer to a deskjob at BdU, or the command of a flotilla like many real captain did. With some cool 2D art prop or a cut-scene it would beat the hell out of SH3's "the war ended - ok" pop up

How do you end the game ?

does a letter come in?

do you die uncontrollably in a scripted event?

does it just say...

"Congladuration... you have ciompleted a great game and prooved the justice of our culture, now go and rest our heroes."

im curious as to what end the game may meet with.

how does the story end with 2 furious and challenging years of World War Two still ahead???
Good question GR - and I agree with your overal feelings exactly

Summing it up, based on the info released so far, as I can understand:

We gain:
- snow and better weather
- better hydro behavior of units
- full interior (for the type VII)
- interaction with the crew
- submarine AI (remains to be seen how competent will it be)
- various eyecandy

We lose:
- the last years of war (except if some skilled modder takes on the difficult task of completing the campaign)
- all other types of submarine, except VII
- the old (and much enjoyed) type of periscope and UZO interface
- once again, we miss the oppportunity to have fully-functional wolfpacks (with radio comms, convoy shadowing, reports and everything else)

Still under a big question mark:
- will we be able to bring other sub types in the campaign (how moddable will this part of the game be)?
- what kind of interaction will the submarine AI allow for? Just reacting to contact reports, like the planes in SH3, or will it be more complex?
- will there be any kind of improvement in the AI behavior of surface ships, so that we no longer see the convoys stopping in place and going into a mess when attacked, as was the case in SH4?
- will ships still accelerate and turn in place like sports cars, or do we get better physical behavior?
- even the idea of releasing subsequent DLCs is put under a big question mark, depending on the "feedback," as mentioned in the interview. What if the said feedback is not to the expected level? will the game remain in its present stage (incomplete IMO)?

On a side note, there were so many great ideas planned for SH3 (some audio files and other inactive elements in game hint to them), which did not make it into the final game, that I am surprised not to find at least some of them included in the fifth game of the franchise.

Only the type VII? No Einbäume? No long-range patrols witha type IX? And a campaign that ends in 1943?

Consider me disappointed.

Oh, and I still think the periscope view looks like crap.

I'm still giving SHV the benefit of doubt, but my initial enthusiasm has certainly suffered a bit lately.

hmm, I think people are overdoin it... I seriously doubt the campaign would stop at 43... Cause that would just be stupid... (unless the game is story driven... which im thinking now.)

Well its what the devs said. They would know. Of course they qualified it by saying there's nothing stopping some enterprising modder from making a new campaign that goes through 1945. But the problem with that is how do you mod in things like FIDO torpedoes, schnorkels, Foxer sets and the like.

Hmmf... well, thats a HUGE downer... What is running through those devs minds... I mean, They have made this game seem even more like a game than it already was IMO...

Well you must be the only one who still doubts the facts

If Sh5 really ends 1943, I am really really disappointed! I was a Fan of SH3 but knew about it's half-bakedness. Later I enjoyed it with Mods.

I did not buy SH4 because the pacific scenario did not interest me. I am thinking about not buying SH5 too. Sad, because I was so looking forward to it.

I could have lived with a focus on Type VII but this... I don't know what to say...

They better delay the game and put in more boat types and make it playable until May 1945!

cheers
Marc

This term seems characteristic for the sh series.

I can´t believe it

one sub type and only to 1943 ?? i suspect about one sub only but the cripple campaign is a disaster for the community.

it means no radar, upgrades, the challenge of the late years...

A mod could be impossible because the game don´t prevent the use of advances ASW weapons, sonars, radars...

I think that the creation of a new GWX must be reconsidered again using sh4 as a engine.
