Some general gameplay tips:

How to get renown: Sink ships, mainly merchants and with luck BB's and carriers. Forget about destroyers and other small stuff.

Attack the biggest merchants early war. Aim the torpedo at the bow or at the smoke stack. Only 1 torpedo / ship. Wait for it to sink. Or to be more realistic fire 2 torpedo's at a ship 1 bow; 1 stern/smokestack.

20k-60k patrols should be easy that way specially early war. Wich results in no need to cheat for a type IXB

In your basic.cfg file there is a section entitled "Renown". Under this, change the RenownReachGridObjCompleted= XXXXXX to whatever value you please. In my case I set it up as 55,000. This means I don't have to spend 24 hours patrolling the grid but from the moment I reach it, I automatically get 55,000 renown points.

[RENOWN]
RenownReachGridObjCompleted=55000
RenownPatrolGridObjCompleted=5500
CompletedPatrol=100
NEUTRAL=-1
ALLIED=1
AXIS=-10
WrongShipSunk=-50
FirstRankRenown=1000
SecondRankRenown=3500
EndCampaign=-5000

I'm pretty sure thats how, havn't done it in a while, so make a back up before you try it. but, I'm about 99% sure thats how its done.

oh, and be in base when you do it, being sure o to open up the most recent save file.

Good luck!
