Here's how I did it, not all steps I took may be necessary but this is what worked for me so I'll stick to it. I don't think I have the starforce DVD, but installed the "certain software" anyway. I ran the setup.exe on the DVD in compatibility mode Win XP SP3. I did not install to the default location but to a different drive.(D) Than ran the 1.4b patch setup.exe in compatibility mode Win XP SP3 and ran it as administrator. Than I copied certain software that will remove the starforce (as she-wolf suggested) to the installation directory. Installed GWX 3, compatibility mode Win XP SP3 and ran it as administrator. To start the game I run SH3.exe in compatibility mode Win XP SP3 and run as administrator. All works fine now, including SH3 commander and the resolution fix. BTW, what a joy to play sh3 on my new pc, loading times are 25% compared to my old system.
