I am buying a new graphics card in the range of the £150 mark. I will also need to buy a new PSU, although Dell might mean I can't, which makes the whole point of buying a G-card kind of pointless...

I use a Phenom II 955 with 4GB 1600Mhz RAM. I think its good enough for sh5, but my GPU is a 8800GT

I don´t know... i hope the GPU is adequate for sh5.

Schaun wa mal...

add $150 to what your spending and build an entire computer then sell your dell as is or give it to your kids.

dell uses notoriously slow hdd and the parts in them are all proprietary (not like anything else) so you have to buy cheaply made overpriced "dell ready" parts.

build your own and you never need to buy another computer, you just upgrade whatever part you want to later if needed but your not stuck with crappy dell parts.

im saying dell dell dell here but the same goes for any prebuilt computers, Dell, HP, Gateway (do they still have these?), they are all good for "basic" needs but if you want a really good computer that plays games well build your own.

Yes, Gateway still does exist, but it is mainly in the business machine market, like Interstate Batteries uses them for most of their computers... And trust me, they aren't built to play games. Also, you are right by saying that you would be better off building your own for gaming... been doing it for the last 15 or so years... Just have to do some research on the part you want to use, reliability, performance, tech support, warranties length and service times.

I needed to upgrade long ago, but I've been putting it off. I'll be building a new rig after the new year, but not just because of SH5.

I expect it must be difficult for the devs as it will always be a compromise so that there is a broad spectrum of acceptable running specs to the end users- it would be no good if you were forced into upgrading to high end gear just to run the game, as obviously that would hit sales. Hence the popularity of consoles, devs are working to a common platform, ie, everyone has got a PS2/3 or an X-Box so they can wring every last scrap of performance from a title.

Remember too, that a lot depends on the resolution / size of screen you look at, I've got a 20" LCD @ 1680 x 1050 so a mid range card should cope perfectly well.

Which is why I would like a 24" screen and a 5870

Hah! Just been promoted to "Nub"- whatever they are...
