I've always said that a twelve-step program is needed for all the submarine simulation addicts here.

"Hi... my name is Kpt. Lehmann... and I'm a submarinaholic."

My name is Platapus and I am....<sob> a submarineaholic

It all started innocently, you know, a couple of training missions, just to be one of the guys.

Well, it quickly became something serious....

Soon stock SH3 was not enough. You see... there were these mods <sob>

Honestly, I only wanted to experiment with one mod -- The grey wolves. I thought I was in control. But I was lying to myself. There were other mods.... too many mods. I admit, I was like a kid in a candy store.

Then there was JSGME. It was SUPPOSED to help me with my mod addictions. HAH! It only enabled me to delve deeper and deeper into mods. Soon I could not play SH3 without JSGME. I had the SH3 monkey on my back

I did not even try to resist SH3 Commander. By that time I was too far gone..... <sob>

I had the stopwatch, the graph paper and yes <hanging head in shame> even my own hard-copy recognition manual!

I tried to keep my family out of this, but I am sure they knew. You can't hide a submarine addiction.

After work I would hurry home for a quick patrol.

Often I would need to log onto Subsim.com first thing in the morning.. just for a few posts to get going.

Soon my friends all left me for WoW or Medal of Honor.. they knew I was a lost case.

It is too late for me. But if I can save one, just one person from becoming a submarineaholic, perhaps my life won't be such a waste.

Go outside and don't be afraid of that bright ball in the sky. It won't hurt you and really, there are no aircraft diving toward you.

Thanks. Very good! Especially the JSGME bit.

Ha! I did not even mention what YOU and YOUR OLC mod did to me!!!

YOU ARE TO BLAME for not only my downfall but my increased enjoyment of the game. You and your mod.. and your little dog too!

How many more lives will you ruin and game experiences will you improve with your mods? I bet you are proud of yourself aren't you! . Think of the young and innocent gamers now hopelessly hooked on manual targeting. Lives ruined, renown enhanced.

Sure you claim it is all for increased realism, but I know the truth!! I know your agenda!! It is not about realism, it is about making the game more enjoyable. I dare you to deny it!! The facts are evident.

You, Sir, are exposed as a manipulator. A skilled manipulator of Stock SH3 data and Mods. And it is high time the world knows all about you and your agendas.

Sorry, OLC, but it had to be said. The truth can not be suppressed .

Platapus, that was a cool story, and a great write.

Remember, you're never an exsubmarineaholic,
but a recovering submarineaholic.

And: Withdrawal can be painful.

And I live in Georgia, too. Freaky.
Freaky coincidence, you two should get together and swap notes on not having girlfriends

Sorry, only kidding. SH3 and Das Boot is better than teens around here who spend Friday night causing trouble.

one more thing.
why do we all play game which we know we will always lose?

not just that the war always ends in the allies favour, but i have yet to live to see the end of the war. even if i start in april 45.

uboat.net made me get into SH3. its their fault, not mine......!

my family suffers. my kids only get rye bread with a growth of mold. they stare at me when i tell them its more realistic to eat it that way.

its not my fault.

my wife asked me where the new market was in town. i told 270 degrees hard rudder starboard from the bus stop.

its not my fault.

somone dropped a shotglass of green peppermint shnapps into my beer. it looked like a familiar canister i had seen somewhere before. i took the mug and my hands began to shake.

its not my fault.

i saw a corvette park in front of our house (my sister) and promptly dove under the coach before i realised what i was doing.

its not my fault.

ive started taking german classes. just...umm....for the hell of it?

its not my fault

For me the addiction started years ago when I was playing Silent Service (waaay back in 8th grade). I tried to quit and found some comfort in the 688sims.. I found silent hunter two, it was like a recreational gateway drug...ok till something better came along. Of course something better came along and got better still with the emergence of GWX. Yes, Im hooked... my wife knows it, kids know it and they still love me while Im out on patrol.
