That's so sick.

I live in Hawaii and pretty much thru most of the 90's all you could get was dial up 28.8kbps.
I thought.. because I was told... that Hawaii, due to being 21hundred miles out in the pacific, that the cables were not laid yet across the pacific and we in Hawaii were behind the rest of America. We soon caught up around year 2000.

I think its sick that any place on the American MAINLAND should be stuck without any other option but to use dial up. So sad.

I got satellite and its basically crap.

basically because I get to combine the wonderful thing called a wireless network, protected, but still shoddy, an old house, and, last but not least, a 12 gig DL limit, no prob unless you do a lot of D2D stuff

It's supposed to be an 24/1. (8/1 would be only 2€ cheaper so. )

Dude, that is so ridiculously true it's not even funny. We first got internet in 99 and Dial-up was the ONLY thing available... Now we have DSL but I had faster speeds on the boat...at sea...submerged.

8Mb down, 1Mb up, guaranteed, no caps/limiting/whatever other nonsense (25,- Euros p.m./~35,- USD).

Can switch to other providers that offer 20Mb down for the same or less, but actual speed greatly varies depending on your location. And you usually get stuck with some "fair-use" policy and P2P-traffic throttling , not too mention more down-time and expensive customer support. My connection has never failed me yet... my router crapped out once though.

As far as I know, 100Mb connections are only available to schools and universities, that sort of stuff; my last school had one of those. Never saw it offered to consumers.

So Europeans are slower than us? That is not what I thought. Maybe it is that we have caught up to them? Probably the likely scenario.

Anyway, Somewhere on the East Coast of Canada is a place where they are testing 100 Mbit. I'll like one of those guys to do the test, but good luck finding one of those people on the board. I think they are rare.

It depends on where you live, like it is in the US. Friends of mine, living in Germany near the borders to Netherlands report around the same speed on DSL as we got on cable. My parents DL/UL speed is downscaled because ,as the ISP told them, the cabling inside their house can't handle even the minimal 8.000 DSL that is available where they live.

I'm not so sure. Cable doesn't have the bandwidth to support my scores above. I have fiber.

If it is not available everywhere, it is a moot point. I am sure there will be people that get the same speeds. Some cities were allready converted to fiber optics 10 years ago.
If you take the average, then the Euros beat the average US, especialy considering that you just need to get out into the woods, and you are most likely stuck with dial up.

But I will admit, nice speeds ya got there.

As far as I know, fiber connections aren't available to consumers here; It's either ADSL or cable. Like I mentioned, the only ones benefitting from a direct fiber connection are schools and such.

Super-speeds are nice, but I'm perfectly happy with my 8Mb; never feel like I have to wait a long time for anything. Considering people either pay more for the same or less for less at other providers, I has nothing to complain about.

What are you forking over every month for that connection, Subman?
