Yeah, I'm sure some will call it entrapment. I would not agree. A decoy car or a lorry with the doors open, not anyone's business but the owner's. If that's entrapment, life is one big entrapment.

Lol, I don't agree with that either, maybe a car parked in a road with the keys left in the door and a sign reading "Steal me!!", ok.

No, it is not entrapment. Liken this to an undercover woman officer in a particular part of the neighborhood that is known for prostitution. The woman officer dresses the part and walks the walk. All the John has to do is offer up some sort of compensation for sex. Yet, the woman officer has not said anything as far as offer of sex for cash. That has to left up to the John. Same with the car. It sits in the known part of the neighborhood looking like a easy target. It walks the walk. It says nothing. Car jacker breaks in and takes the car. The car jacker initiated the theft.

Bloody good idea. There should be more of it. I agree with Neal. Unless you suggest to someone "Hey see that car over there? Go steal it" it shouldn't be entrapment.

If you left my keys in the door or ignition an some basum stole it, it would still be theft.

Entrapment, according to US law, does NOT apply here. Specifically:
Quote:
However, there is no entrapment where a person is ready and willing to break the law and the government agents merely provide what appears to be a favorable opportunity for the person to commit the crime.
Leaving an unlocked car somewhere does not provoke a person to take it - it merely provides what that person sees as an easy opportunity.

By posters' earlier logic, what if a cop hopped out of a squad car to chase a perp, and left the door open and the keys in the ignition? Would it be entrapment for someone to steal the squad? Of course not.

They started doing these cars in a the late 90s I belive the shows just put it on tv that is all they did not come up with the idea. You can not be entrapped when you are trying to steal a car, you are trying to seatl a car you just stole one that you cant steal. It is just like undercover drug buys a sales it is legit so long as they dont entrap and willingly comitting crime is not entrapment.

I saw on the Bait Car show a few times people taking the keys and calling the police to report an unattended (unaware it was a bait car) car! They set these cars up in high auto theft areas. I hate M..... F.....s that steal.Caught a guy once trying to jimmy my car had my buddy cover me I while snuck up and punched the guy in the back of the head so hard his face smacked the side window and he dropped out cold:rotfl: took his jimmy bar and threw in a rentention pond and left his dazed ass sitting in the parking lot some store security guy came up and told us to leave and that he would "take care" of our friend. I wonder what ever happended to the punk his face was bleeding pretty bad I must have broken his nose.
