Neal, I usually don't disagree with you, but here is the part that is disturbing to me from his speech:

I wouldn't have thought much about it until you read the surrounding context, such as taking concrete actions against torture. These two things should have been separated. The fact that they were not means that it happened. That is the problem. Every Muslim extremist will hold that up as an admission of guilt for all others to see. Its justified now.

You may say this is untrue, but it is not me you have to convince.

Obama's right - we did act against our ideals. If you think that stuff like we saw in the Abu Ghraib photos is in line with American ideals, then you believe in a very different America than most of us believe in.
