It seems that no or very few real life commitments would be a key factor.
Also a really understanding/forgiving/angelic/helpful spouse/significant other/boyfriend/girlfriend/partner to take full advantage as well. ![]()

I would only do that if I was on a real sub in the middle of a war where getting off the sub would mean drowning. Otherwise I will always use TC.

Really, you have to get mentally trained if you want to complete a RTP. Cuz it nearly killed me from inside.
Imagine you're trying to sleep but your sleep consists only from closed eyes and ears on standby mode all the time. You never have enough rest and next day is difficult to concentrate on RL matters. ![]() ![]() I'm not saying it's not possible to get along with this regime but if your'e sensitive sleeper, it will take some effort to get used to the constant noise of u-boat engines ![]() |

I highly recommend using x32 time compression and playing the game from the bridge. It gives you a great immersion of patrolling in a WWII submarine.
Generally, it's a little less that 1 game day in 1 hour real time. I thing it's the golden "medium" between real time and high time compression. It's been years since I play like this, and I can't go back to x2048 or more... It looks more arcade to me... Like teleporting!! ![]() This way a player can enjoy the days passing by, the mild weather changes, and the effects of a long patrol... Crossing the Atlantic or Pacific in 10 minutes RT is a little... ![]() Try it! You may be surprised by the addiction it offers! ![]() |

I've wanted to try a real time patrol since I have vacations...but I will probably get distracted on the process and just TC until I get into the open sea.......oh well for the heck of it I'll do an attempt right now of doing a TCx1 career, just going to use TC to set the time to match my zone so I don't get screwed up
![]() U-97 (Type-VIIC) will leave St. Nazaire in a couple of minutes ![]() Need to patrol grid AM 41, NO estimates 148 hours until we reach the grid @ 8 knots, distance is of 1900 km, I'll probably burn some diesel in the morning, going to periscope depth for the night once we get deep into the ocean right now we are just 81 km away from St. Nazaire so there's no risk on being surfaced and sleeping at the moment, current time 2:38 AM.

Ive never come accross "Zulu time" before. We always call it GMT in the UK. Why do you call it Zulu time?

Ive thinking of trying Real time patrol but my pc is in the room i sleep and the noise is just damn annoying late at night when the only noise is the pc.Though i have been on ships for few weeks in the sea and the noise from the engines is easy to ignore even though it is everpresent. However the noise from the pc is driving me crazy

I expect members of your armed forces say "Zulu time" or something similar. Two explanations; pick your favourite:

Realistically a Real Time Patrol of any length would be absolutely murderous.
Due to the fact that most of us...supposedly...have jobs and RL issues we will always get less than 24 hours of game time in any 24 hour period. That is to say even if we play a massive 12 hours a day non stop, it wouold still take us a month to simulate a 15 day patrol. ![]() Try doing a good three or four week patrol, and it would take upwards of 60 days to sim....if you palyed 12 hours a day. Put in a more realistic 6 hours a day (still massive) and our four week patrol takes us a solid one quarter of a year to sim. ![]() Ummm no thanks. Maybe a quick cruise in a Type II would be interesting, but still....

well you could leave the game running and dive to safe depth at silent running. This most probably will save you any unfortunate encounters.
