Default Real Time Patrol

Dunno what got into me but I guess I just got tired from TC and already bored to get in action only when target is spoted

So, I began a new career yesterday night from 1939 Sept.1 I will try to complete this patrol in real time. It's 7-th flotilla and I departured Kiel for AL36 by OKM orders. We already passed 12 hours of continuous passage. I'm still on East side of Denmark (AO4795), heading NNE. No enemy contacts.

Very nice captain!

I had problems with the crew management in SH3.
When the crew fatigue was corrected by mods, I ALWAYS patrol on the bridge at X32 speed.

This way, you can really enjoy the travel time and its effects.
Seeing endless sunrises and sunsets, feeling many days of storms...

Of course, with the updated crew management in SH4, I continued like this. No X8192 for me.

I don't have much free time, but the patrol relaxes me (until enemy contact that is!)

Happy hunting!

AFAIK, the only sound you'll hear when minimized is the thunder.

So your gonna leave your machine on for months?

What if you get a power glitch?

Anyhow someone did this for SH3 when it first came out. He even got mentioned in the press.

Good luck !

No I will save the game and shut down PC when I'm away from home. I'm going to make this patrol with TCx1 whenever I'm at home
If the power glitch occurs there is UPS under the table to take care about this.

So I'm very slowly approaching North sea and it is still Sept 2 in the morning. Tonight we met two of friendly patrol boats and saw Danish light ship. Now it's only plenty of emptyness in the horizon

Time goes sooo slowly and the rest of my crew has not much to do on their free time..

I was thinking.. Would it be possible to do a patrol or career via mission editor but like in multiplayer for couple of players ?
I mean to go out on the patrol together with one more player for instance ?

The save option would be complicated I guess and maybe more common CTD issues

I've heard that it kinda can't be done with SH3's build, at least not without significant effort. Would be great though to go through for example a mission with two boats or even more, with the boats in pre-destined starting-off points and the whole mission going in real time.

Good hunting, Herr Kaleun. The real time patrol is my long-time wish, but never got enough free time. Some day, maybe...

Keep us posted!

Exactly.. It's such a pitty it can't be done though..
I hope maybe GWX4 will make this opportunity alive.

Like <Multiplayer Career> mode

Would be cool

Well if you really want it, you can make it happen

I'm letting the game go when I'm at home and when I can check anytime how it's going. When I have to leave I'm saving it and shuting down the game, or leaving it paused. But I like to save it and shut down the game to have more frequent malfunction situations which is introduced in SH3cmdr.
On the other hand saving helps if any CTD occurs and it will hurt less

during my 1x patrol last year i had a great time. (see http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...ight=1x+patrol )

fortunately i was only at sea for something like 14 or 15 days as i had departed a french base and ran into a huge convoy about 8 or 9 days out and exhausted all torpedoes.

one problem i encountered... i had multiple saves, one per hour to be exact, and i think that having multiple saves caused my clock not to jive with day/night cycles in the game.

for example, not 500 miles off the coast of france, it would be beaming daylight yet the game clock showed 2300 hours local time!

some suggested that this was a result of the extreme north latitude longitude - however i was not north of the BF squares.

secondly, when the clock would show 1130am it would be pitch dark outside with a full moon.

my recommendation to anyone attempting a 1x patrol would be to start your patrol as close as possible to the real time. for example; if it is 8:00am where you live... make sure to leave port when it is 8:00am in the game, this way your life is a little easier - when it is time to sleep in the game it will be time to sleep in real life etc.

secondly, for saving, i wouldnt save hourly due to corruptions.

save once per day, and should a fatal crash occur hours after your save, use time compression to catch up to the current real time, then resume 1x compression. this helps reduce the risk of corrupt saves and strange errors.

Yep, I'm doing preventive saves 1-2 times per 24 hours..

Speaking about time differences I left Kiel when clock was showing 8 o'clock and the local time was 7 o'clock. Thought what a hell, but I couldn't be bothered by that very much.
