Zacstar - States Rights a "new" idea?

I'm sorry - but the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution was ratified December 15th, 1791. That would make the idea about.. oh... 217 years old, plus a few months. Somehow that doesn't seem all that "new" to me. Instead, it seems the states, and the people in them, have had enough of it to actually read a little bit of how our system of government is supposed to work and figured out they have some rights that they choose to utilize.

If 217 years old is a "new" idea - then I guess the idea that the Constitution is a "living" document open to interpretation using foreign laws is barely born. I don't know about you - but I think I would rather listen to the wisdom of a 217 year "NEW" idea than the ramblings of a freshly born judicial activist idea that doesnt even hold water under the light of common sense.

Why pay per view? You can watch U.S. combat units get blown up by militias on CNN or the internet for free.
And those are poorly-trained incompetents they are fighting.

As August mentioned, a lot of current military members and retirees wouldn't even fight U.S. citizens. Assuming that this hypothetical conflict was over the kinds of issues we are talking about here, a lot of U.S. troops and veterans would be fighting for the right-wingers. Almost half of the entire U.S. Marine Corps is from Texas, which is a pretty conservative state.

They are a lot more dangerous than today's run-of-the-mill insurgents for two reasons.
1) Morale. They have more of it and the people fighting them will have less of it, for a lot of reasons. Mostly because it is extremely demoralizing to have to fight your own countrymen. The people putting down the insurrection do not have a cause. A lot of them would probably be conscripts.
2) Training and skill. Besides the fact that a lot of "right-wing extremists" are familiar with the proper use, care, and employment of firearms, the fact that they might have trained combat veterans amongst them makes them very dangerous.
A well-trained fireteam can render a modern battletank combat ineffective in a few seconds using small arms, 2 molotov cocktails(or 1 and a smoke grenade), a rock(of all things), and a sledgehammer. That's an extreme example, but one person can destroy a main battle tank with a steel cylinder, a piece of lead, a few ounces of plastic explosive, a car battery, and a few yards of wire.
An entire platoon can be destroyed using shell primers, a couple boxes of nails, duct tape, and a model rocket engine igniter.
And all that is before we get into the really interesting possibilites.

I really, really, hope it does not ever come to a civil war but if it does, you might want to think twice about the faith you seem to have in the state military.

I don't think the 82nd Airborne would be supportive in any way with the very people who consider them potential "extremists" and "risks". Military people probably aren't too surprised by the DHS report from the administration recently. The people you vote for are not exactly military friendly. Haven't been since before LBJ. I remember the pay freezes and the other crap. The Pay Per View you dream about wouldn't exactly turn out like you would like it to. Trust me.

And while I appreciate the subtle sarcasm below:

No offense intended Enigma, but these comments have absolutely no impact coming from a Liberal Democrat voter. The last 8 years of your side bashing the American military while at war, comparing our soldiers and Marines to nazi's and war criminals, all the while making it hard to successfully complete major military objectives, makes your comments above a joke.

In these times, people are protesting the lousy change that you voted for. It is a protest against turning the real America into something it's not. Even the Blue Dog Democrats don't like what's going on, and are taking action. The people out there are the ones who actually make the country work and are the ones who do love America. As you also see them protesting Republicans against their big government efforts as well. And they are definitely not with your people, they are against them. Count on it. But as such, we'll see who is actually shown the door in the end.....

Coherent arguments only exist in your mind so long as you agree with them, August. You should take your own advice.

"Advice"

Try it.

You can put a rolling on the floor laughy guy under than one too, Aramike. It's equally as funny I suppose...

Go team hand holders!

Poor liberals. Unable to defend their administrations trampling of the Constitution they have to resort to old Bush photoshops and "I know you are but what am I" childish responses.

Enjoy your stay in power, i'm thinking it's going to be a short one....

Yes. Poor completely elected and in power liberals.

Now you worry about the trampling of the constitution. What a joke....

Yes. There has always been concerns regarding the dislocation of constitutional principles. I think August has been very fair in past posts, and has been honest when he felt Bush wasn't exactly doing things correctly. So have many others. The problem you have is that your guy is not only trampling constitutional principles, he is also trying to change the very fabric of American society into things it cannot be. Your guy is beyond just trampling the constitution. He is trampling economic principles, national defense (deterrence), representative government, individual responsibility (independance), and just plain common sense. And you're rooting for all of it apparently.

I'm in agreement that liberals are bringing their own demise very quickly.

Well whatever the problem is it's certainly either the "liberals" or "conservatives" fault.

It's perfectly fine, I just don't see anything funny about photoshopping Bush into hitler, nor do I see anything funny about Obama defending warrentless wiretapping, I don't see anything funny about the Federal government attempting to label anyone who disagrees with them a terrorist, and i especially don't see anything funny about a growing number of states feeling it necessary to buck the federal government.

Your party is in charge now. You had better stop acting worse than what you accused the Republicans of being if you want to remain there so take it for what it's worth.
