I personally think they are pretty good..
In the periscope view you are blind by them, and it's correct because periscope is an optical device that increases light strength due to magnification. Moreover, searchlights were equiped with carbon-arc lamps with lens focus mechanisms, thus they were very bright... so, enjoy the brightness  !!
