the intel is from the movie Gochin, it's the I-10 filmed in 1943 (from 11'16'' till 12'30'' ) :
or on FF : http://files.filefront.com/driver+mp.../fileinfo.html this should allow us to make a realistic wheel. But my Jyunsen B Driver now has to be standing up ! Keltos Last edited by keltos01; 12-29-08 at 04:36 AM. |

from Don on http://www.j-aircraft.org/smf/index.php?topic=7105.0
"Gochin" ('Attack to Sink!') was made by Nichiei, under the supervision of Watanabe Yoshimi, and released in 1944. It is a fiction film with documentary footage interlarded, as per common Japanese propaganda film practice throughout the war. "Three photography teams were sent with three submarines respectively, sallying forth to the Indian Ocean. They recorded the sinking of an enemy ship by torpedoes, the questioning of rescued prisoners, the rise to the surface at night for the bombardment of an enemy tanker that had not been completely sunk by torpedoes..." etc. After the great success of the Pearl Harbor attack, and the absence of much good propaganda footage from this operation, the Imperial Navy decided to "board a whole camera crew in a narrow submarine for 'Attack to Sink'; it is clear that the military authorities gradually recognized the propagandistic power of film." The film critic Jay Leyda, writing on "Gochin" noted that it was "filmed almost entirely in a Japanese submarine during a hunting cruise, a camera feat I have never seen equalled." HTH, Don Sources: Abe Mark Nornes & Fukushima Yukio, The Japan/America Film Wars, (Harwood Academic Publishers), pp. 45-46. Films and the Second World War, by Roger Manvell (Dent, Barnes, 1974) from Luke : you are right and actually all dates (visible on the little wooden plancks) refer to I-10 sinkings in different war patrols in Indian and Pacific Oceans: 1941-12-10 Danish NORDHVAL 1942-06-05 Panamanian ATLANTIC GULF 1942-06-06 US MELVIN H. BAKER (Rohwer and Browning list 5 June) 1942-06-08 British KING LUD 1942-07-03 US EXPRESS (Rohwer and Browning list 30 June) 1942-07-06 Greek NYMPHE 1942-07-08 British HARTISMERE 1942-07-09 Dutch ALCHIBA 1943-01-30 US SAMUEL GOMPERS 1943-03-05 US GULFWAVE (Rohwer and Browning list 1 March) 1943-07-23 Norwegian ALCIDES (Rohwer lists 22 July) 1943-09-14 Norwegian BRAMORA Luke from Ryusuke : More information from Japanese source: 1) On July 22, 1943, I-10 sank Norwegian ALCIDES (7634 tons) and captured a man. The scene can be seen in "Gochin". 2) In the movie, there's a scene that I-10 sinks Norwegian tanker BRAMORA (6361 tons) on September 14, 1943. But the scene in the submarine is not of I-10, but of I-38 at harbor, according to the interview with ex-I-25 crew in 1989. 3) The movie was taken in the 59 days operation from September 2 to October 30 in 1943. 4) Most of the scenes were taken in I-162 and I-165.
