This really p*issed me off!

This one makes me really mad. I'm sailing around CO 51 - CO 52 looking for targets & I came across a 4 ship convoy consisting of 2 destroyers and 2 cruisers. It was just past 2:30 am local time with 15m waves. I got into position to hit the biggest target, a 10,000+ ton South Hampton Class cruiser, with a spread shot using tubes 2 & 3. She got close enough & I launched torpedoes. 1 shot hit her & the other missed but struck & sank a Town Class destroyer stationed on the other side of my intended target. I fired tubes 1 & 4 as the cruiser was still broadside to me. Another hit & a miss. By this time the enemy was on high alert so I needed to go deep asap. The last time that I saw the cruiser she was burning but still chugging off into the distance. Had I sank her she would have been my biggest GWX warship so far.

Good attack, but C'est la guerre. Sometimes you win, sometimes . . .

I hit a HMS Nelson with 2 eels that left holes in her that you could have driven a truck through, she sailed merrily on at 8knts with just a slight list to starboard to denote I'd even touched her Just have to try harder next time

My guess is the way they set it up in GWX is,you have to hit three different compartments to get a big Warship to sink.

Tho sometimes you get lucky and break her back with one torp.

I know how you feel! I have put a couple of torpedos into a large warship, only to see it sail off over the horizon, leaving me with a bunch of escorts who want my hide over the fireplace!

You're not alone.

Several hits at the Bogue escort carrier, but she continue to sail like nothing happened.

I was lucky yesterday...

I sink my biggest ship in my new career HMS Nelson (with GWX) and also 2 large cargo, but I spend lot of time with D/C and a discontented crew,to much destroyer I think, but she going down after 3 tubs, in 11 m/s and in night time

AFAIK the battleships at least, had torpedo protection bulkheads, extra flood compartments to survive hits and chug back home for repairs. In the game I've only sunk 2 warships, with 2 torpedoes each, a Revenge and a Fiji cruiser, both sunk slowly though, more than an hour..

Both happen to me... But look on the bright side, you are still alive to fight another day.

I am not those who love warships, and generally, I cannot catch up task forces

I guess my best kill are destroyers... lol

Played NYGM with XXIII today. when patrolling northern Britain, hypophone contact indicates a fast merchant. Set a course to intercept, and it is a passanger linear sailing at 21kt. Tried to sink it using merely 2 torpedoes. Fired a salvo of 2 at range 3800m. One hit, but obviously it only suffered minor damage and continued sailing at 21kt. Grr... I guess I should be less greedy next time, I said to myself. So next time I just focused on tramp streamers, or small merchants or small tankers so I can guarantee that I sink a ship everytime I hit.

Well, at least you survived. That is something to be happy about, considering 75% of navy personeel perished in WWII and the sheer number of task force escorts.

I guess to sink them, you must set the fish deep so that it breaks its back or tries to capsize it by flooding one side of it only. Or destroy its propellers to make it stop dead in water and kill it later. Or aim at its weak spots (oil bunker, ammo store) but anti torpedo budges ruins all these efforts
