Phillip Tomsen at his water mod had 'cure' it with the way you are discribing (he used very 'smaller' squares instead of 'bigger' that you suggest).point is that Thomsen's waves were ,imo, tottally unrealistic and i didn't like them at all so i choosed to make the MEP's waves as i liked them and ignore the polygon effect.
so, i am suspecting that your waves will not be realistic too but i would like to see them first before say more.if ,indeed, are nice and eliminating the polygon effect then please allow me to use them in MEP v4

ps: i said that the 'solution' is hardcoded becuase the sh3's engine has prooved that can hadle correctly the light's reflections at all weather's situation ( i can see them rendering correctly to all specific weather states and to all MEP's waves situations at my development single missions).the problem appears at the big weather changes (not all the time though) showing that something is 'screwed' up and is not 'following' correctly

I can see where a bunch of small waves looks way off as I tried that at first and they were horrible. You need the large wave also as that controls swells.Oceans are not just a flat pane with mountains of waves but instead a mix of swells and small waves.

Problem is that the swells are what cause the ships to behave erratically. What really bothers me is when viewed thru scopes and the ships float out of the water.I put the water so that does not happen but then the waves just never give an ocean look as they are too calm.I then put the swells a bit higher and it looks better from calm to 15 seas but the boats sticking out of the water just irritates me.

And WOW your PS just confirmed my huge suspicion. What the heck is causing that weird look where the ocean looks excellent at a single mission but when in a patrol it starts to go off.I mean the reflections, water color and even the polygon effect seems to go off after alot of weather changes. That is something that really needs to be looked into.Does that happen when one runs stock scene.dat?Or maybe its as you suggest too fast weather changes?

I am a player that truthfully loves the very long time for weather changes that came in stock SH3.The reason is twofold.
First is that when I sit down to play a patrol my mind likes constant weather sessions since I am only there for an hour or two and 10 weather changes seems off.Probably just me.
Second is that the weather changes happening faster cause the weird look when your looking out at a ship and the waves suddenly jump up in size or the lighting changes etc.If you are right that too many weather changes cause the scene.dat to go screwy then maybe its better to bring it back to stock or just very slightly faster weather changes.

As for using my tweaks in MEP,I am still tweaking but sure.If you do like them then it will be an honor. But,I HATED(!!!!!!)the small waves and so you may feel same about my tweaks.

MEP v4? MIAM? HAHD?
I'm away for awhile and all these awesome crazy changes.
Figured I'd give this thread a little bump, as the last post is about a month old.

Now to figure out what "HAHD" is ..

I have more than a general question: why there's no sun halo when looking trough biocular or scope?
Would this be fixable or is it just the non-transparent water where we have to live without it.
Thanks in advance - MEP v3 is absolute great, hard to believe theres more possible!

I encountered a similar problem initially. There's a download somewhere titled " M.E.P v3-fix pack+Sensors". It contains M.E.P v3 patch and a Flat sun Fix for v3 which got rid of it, at least for me. From plissken:

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...&postcount=106

Enter the name (admin) and password (Woelfe) after clicking the link in the post, scroll down to Makman94's download folder and there it is.

So install in this order through JSGME:

M.E.P v3
M..E.P v3 patch
Flatsunfix v.3

hope this helps,

Cheers @Uboat177
i didn't tried the flatsun fix lately but used it before with no much success - but i'll try again today.

Like you see the halo on bridge and external view is fine, pics above are from patched MEP v3 + a mod called real underwater environment 1.0.
First 2 pics taken without the flatsun fix, last image even with the fix applied - do you really have halo at scope or binocular? Pic or it didn't happend
MEP is the only mod that gives me a satisfactional horizon, even high in the air, cat wait for the update btw. Hard to believe thistcan be topped.
