Lost at sea june 17 1943

Lorient France June 22 1943 ------------------------- " It is with great sadness to report that " U-180 " type : IXD/2 with Kaleun Erich Schaffer is lost at sea june 17 1943 by destroyers 200 km northwest of Freetown . He was patrolling from april 17-june 17 . Erich Schaffer was one of Germanys highest decorated uboat Cmdrs . Always doing his duty he be surely missed .Our condolances goes to his family . We salute him " ..... |
