Ahead 1/3. Runs about 6 knots. Three to four weeks travel time, if you go Ahead Slow while in the patrol zone. Probably they didn't have that much food.

Sailor Steve is right.
Cruising speed for a Type IIA should be 1/3 speed, which is about 7 knots in calm seas, 6 knots in heavy seas. Once in the patrol area, I cruise submerged in daylight at slow speed, which allows for hydrophone searching, then recharge the batteries on the surface at night also at slow speed. Using this method, a Type II can even reach Scapa Flow from Kiel, patrol for a couple of days then return to base. You should be able to stay at sea for 14 days that way. |

2) Some of us strive for realism, even if it's not in the game. I found that with proper fuel management I could keep a type VIIb out for 85 days. Hardly realistic, and I try not to do it anymore. I try to imagine I'm really the captain, with all his problems.
