I voted for Connery, with Daniel Craig right there with him. The reason is simple: the early Connery movies and the new Casino Royale are the only ones that actually follow the books fairly closely. That is a major factor for my enjoyment. I thought Timothy Dalton was fine, if only the movies themselves hadn't stunk to high heaven. Pierce Brosnan was nothing like the Bond of the books, and neither was Roger Moore. George Lazenby was bad, but the movie itself followed the book quite well, which is a plus.

Actually the first actor to play James Bond was Barry Nelson, in Casino Royale, back in 1953.

For early American television they had to turn him into an American, but still...
