If I had a dollar for every "End is Near" doomsday prediction I've lived through, I'd be quite well off. The most memorable one was in the late 50's when I was a child growing up in San Francisco; someone came up with a doomsday prediction and it even got significant press coverage. One of the local papers had a big headline "World Ends Today!" on the morning edition of the "doomsday". The next morning the headline was something along the line of "World Fails To End!"

If the world does end I can see the modern headlines already each with the appropriate political slant.
