The schleuse mod doesn't/shouldn't affect plane rendering but the tc factor does (anything above x128).

BTW if your seeing Swordfish that is a clear indicator there is a carrier nearby.

I'm running GWX. As soon as i wrote this thread, i started getting attacked by swordfish every 1/2 hr. I saw only one wellington. You guys r right. I think i'm too early in the war and if the other planes are like the swordfish in attacking then i'm in for a battle.Out of six sw
ordfish, only one bomb came close, causing alot of damage. Thanks all for the feedback.

You keep saying that! I've been playing this game 5 years and have never run down a carrier, though they have appeared in TFs/Convoys.

Perhaps, à la Clinton, I should ask what you mean by "is" and "nearby."

Lots of airplane trouble my way already in mid 1941 (read the Balz Missing thread).

I keep saying that because IT IS TRUE.

Check the planes heading and run down it or better still.....pause the game, take a note of the precise time and date and open the ME to interrogate the Scr layer....you should see the carrier then.

Yep, he is right. I've sunk several bogue carriers after spotting the swordfish.

Thanks, jimbuna. I know I can do that if I really wanted to know... but so far have always resisted. There is always a price for "perfect intelligence;" in this case it would be the joy of the game.

That is true but it is a price some on the GWX team had to pay because of scripting and testing requirements.

yeah, i took your advice and started moving toward Lerwick, above scapa flow, in pursuit of the bogue carrier. All of a sudden, i CTD. Eveytime i would reload and when i got to that same grid area, CTD. I read a thread somewhere this happens in certain areas' of the sim. I also experienced this around Bergan. Eveywhere else no problems, so far.Any thoughts?Again, i'm running GWX with a mid-end machine.

Over the last few patrols I have been wondering whether my career was broken or not as I am in Januery 1941 (started career in August 1939), 11 patrols completed and have only seen axis planes so far

I will have to see if they start to appear as the war progresses.

I seem to recall posts about CTD's like this.

I don't remember if it was a Mod enabled on top of GWX 3 that caused it,
or a Mod that fixed it.

Can you post your Mods enabled list and system specs?

Also, what SH3 are you running?
with StarForce,
with Reloaded's hack,
non-StarForce later release?

Privateer is correct, it is usually down to a third party mod which is scripting a vessel into your library that already exists.

I can vouch for Jim that it is true, have had that exact experience before. Started with 1 Swordfish attacking, then another single one comes; since Swordfish are easy to shoot down (even with the computer gunner) I decided to chalk up some planes to my tally and let the flak gunner have some fun. More Swordfish kept coming and coming, next in pairs and finally 3 at a time (this guy is a legendary flak shooter, when I finally promoted him to an officer he had 27 kills, only crewman on my boat with a RK because of that feat). With so many Swordfish around the only logical conclusion is that there's a carrier within striking distance.

Since I was on the surface the whole time and looking around I did spot the carrier about 12,000m from my position later on in the firefight. As the flot top ran out of planes I was able to get into a good firing position quickly and slam an eel under the plane elevator. Watching a BB sink is cool, watching a flat top sink is devilishly gratifying; especially when this one capsized before it finally went down.

Holy cow. Sounds like I'm in for a treat, once I finally start sinking stuff. So far I've only done a pre-war "shakedown cruise" in a Type II. Seeing as it as still August 1939, I didn't sink anything.

I've played several sub sims over the years. SH III is the first with the very possibility of a sinking ship capsizing, except maybe Aces of the Deep. But it's been a while, and it seems like a lot of work to (maybe) get AOD running under Windows XP.
