Can't finish a mission

Hi all. This is my first post here. I’ve had the game for a couple of weeks, and am becoming addicted. It runs beautifully on my 3 gig Pentium D duel core with 2 gig of ram and an invidia 256 meg geforce 6600 video board. The game is well designed all around except for the manual; if it weren’t for this forum I don’t think I would have stuck with it. My first and last sub sim, until now, was Silent Service (I think) back in the early nineties. My last game was Star Craft, then War Craft–excellent games but too much micro-managing for me. I could use a little advice about Patrol Mission 3 Lifeguard Duty. I go to the star, see the grid with survivors, but I can’t pick them up. I bring the boat up to the little gray box bringing it as much to a stop as I can, scan the area through the binocs on deck, but there is no one there. I’ve gone up to the stationary boxes, and the slow moving ones but no luck. It was dark, so I waited until daylight–no help. I’ve tried everything I can think of but I can’t finish the mission (the star doesn’t gray out). Any suggestions?
