Escort don't care about friendly fire or collateral damage. This was from a recent sorte into Scapa. After sinking the Aux Cruiser (late at night) was low on air and had to surface long enough to at least recharge the O2. All the DD below had already sighted me while submerged while the flat top I was going after next a few km east couldn't see me yet but didn't keep the others from opening fire (on each other) and sinking the whole patrol around the enterance. Made for an easy exit later to go out via the front door.
![]() This was from a really risky torpedo transfer, the troop transport I'd already sunk and managed to get between it and the row of buildings. There was still one trawler that got stuck on the other side of one of the piers and continued to fire at me (despite there being several brick building between it and me, with no hope of ever hitting me. ![]() The final resut, damn thing sank everything left that I'd planned to go after (including a large merchant which is off the screen in the photo): ![]() Escorts can be really stupid, if you can get one of them between you and one further out the one in the middle can easily be sunk from friendly fire as the others make no effort to avoid hitting their own ships when they have you in their sights. Have never seen an escort shallow depth charge another one so close to each other to cause the other to sink, but frequently see them depth charge themself to death in shallow water from failing to speed up after dropping their own charges. |
