Default Torpedo failures in April 1941

I'm playing a career in April 1941, found a convoy full of troopships. I fired all fore tubes, aft tube, and all fore tube internal reserves (all torpedoes were G7as). All but two of them hit, none detonated.

Is this accurate? I thought that the torpedo failures had been fixed sometime after April 1940.

I'm playing with all the TDW torpedo patches enabled. Should I disable some of these to make a more realistic April 1941 experience?

Use magnetic detonators...Still, if sea is rough you may suffer a number of premature detonations.

In real life it was the magnetic pistol which caused the problems. In real life it was also almost impossible to disable the magnetic pistols. They were integral to the detonation system and it required a procedure of several hours to disable one, and that precluded having someone aboard who actually knew how they worked. Failure rates during the period reached as high as 40%.

The pistols were disabled in port and not used again until a new one was developed - in December 1942.

Actually, with TDW hardcode fixes this is simulated quite good in SH5. Magnetic detonators will behave both as magnetic and impact pistols with failure percentage dropping as time passes...
Impact detonators will fail in case of impact with large angle during entire war though...

EDIT
We shouldn't forget that TDW patches also simulate a whole range of torpedoes "features" in order to eliminate mathematical certainty evident in previous SH games...
