I'd say there's plenty more out there in the more religious areas of the states, plus anti-government groups in general. After all, since the end of the Cold War, most groups like the Weather Underground and that have disbanded or splintered and their guns have got to go somewhere.

Ah well, at least this particular one was caught.

While it is a good thing these wackos got stopped I cant help but feel the media coverage on this thing is wall to wall.

It's not like this was a massive movement its a small splinter group of nut jobs. Why the barrage day and night of coverage on this?
How much coverage did the Unabomber get over the years and he was only one idiot?
What about them two beltway snipers, did they get much coverage?
Perhaps its just your perception of the coverage.

Quote:
But you dont hear much about this situation.
OK you say it doesn't get coverage except maybe a 5-10 minute piece one evening then post a piece that links to several days written coverage of the specific incident a 10 minute film on it, plus many months of articles and films on the ongoing situation down there.

Now Skybird, Where on this green earth did you get the idea that these Christian nut jobs are a Racist Hate group?
Maybe its from the threats that it is claimed were made by the trash, which led to the actual raid.
Though even without that there is a long histtory of "christian" patriots/militia/identity just being a bunch of crazy racist scum.

The Beltway Snipers got the coverage because they were on the loose many days. It made for good TV as far as the media was concerned however, concerned citizens wanted to know when these two were picked up. The killing was so random. People were scared.

Exactly, because the only illegal guns in circulation in the States originate from the Weather Underground.

They tend to Read even more dangerous men's ideas such as George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and dare I speak it, The U.S. constitution!

Now I am no part of any militia but as long as they are open and monitored I have no issue with them. The nutjobs like these guys always get caught so let the legal system handle them and get on with your day without living in fear of these "Racist Hate groups" lol
I follow the example of that spokesman I already referred to, who used the term. I also remind of the debate we had in the past, when I quoted the Secret Service with saying that Obama is the most endangered president in the history of the nation. Finally I remind you of the well-known rise in racism following the campaigning of Obama, and the new Spring in recruiting done for the KKK. We discussed this back then, I will not help in making this appear as "new nfo" and "questionable" - by doing all that debate again.

So an unusual event or a new threat gets its coverage noticed more, whereas just another incident in a long running daily grind of violence south of the border blends in to all the other stories about down there and doesn't get its coverage noticed as much.

So that means in relation to.....

Unless of course there is an agenda underfoot.. yea I know tin foil hat.. sure...
...the agenda isn't hidden, its just plain marketing.
If you want the percieved level of coverage leveled out more make the long running drug war down south become more of a rarity with much less killing and make arresting crazy trailer trash conspiracy nuts a much more common event.
Come to think of it, if you take.....
Quote:
Well fine.. then at least give them equal coverage not ignore one and be all over the other. That sounds fair to me.
...and maybe get the federal government to make an agency that covers broadcasting and get them to follow a doctrine of fairness to get equal coverage then it would lead to more loonies in trailers going nuts about the evil government interfering with everything and then getting themselves arrested...which should then balance out the reporting nicely.

Where was that incident with two guys involved in robbing a bank in broad daylight.....as the police arrived they peppered anything and everything with automatic fire yet the police were powerless to stop them because they were wearing body armour?

I remember watching a docimentary about it....eventually one guy shot himself from under his chin with a pistol when he ran out of ammo for his automatic and the police brought the other guy to a halt by shooting at his inprotected ankles from under a car?

Pretty scary stuff and not that long ago IIRC

North Hollywood shootout.

Other famous US shootout is the 1986 FBI Miami shootout. The US police is in a kind of arms race with the crooks.

A lot of people thought they had tuned in to a action movie when they saw that on TV. It took them a while to realize that it was real.

That reminds me of another incident in Cali, the Tank Chase. A mentialy unstable man with a grudge aganst the goverment steals an M60 Patton MBT and destroys a neighborhood.

I would suspect the watchdog group you describe was the Southern Poverty Law Center. It's what they do, besides suing various entities back to the stone age and doing various other legal work.

I am not into the militia thing and this group appears to be some trailer trash with nothing better to do but cause trouble, most of them prob read at a third grade level if that. However, I believe the admin is just exploiting this to show how ''dangerous'' the right wing is.These people have prob been on the radar pre-obama but they decided to move in on them.I work at a law firm, we handle federal cases often(will be in fed court tomorrow actually) and I can tell you, a Federal indictment is kind of meaningless because the Feds could indict a cupcake, meaning it does not take much, federal grand juries are a sham esp when word comes from 1600 Penn Avenue.Who else is an easier target than this group of rejects? I see and smell smoke, where there is smoke, there is fire. These people are not the mainstream of the Conservative movement as the propaganda from the DOJ would have use believe
