"optional" just means what it will borrow from your systems ram which they will all do when they run out of onboard ram so the "optional" ram specs is meaningless and is just used as a selling ploy to confuse people.

dedicated ram = onboard ram (ram that you really have)

optional ram = what it will borrow from your system (smoke & mirrors term used for marketing purposes)

Sure, but as long as I don't have a 64 bit O/S installed, i can just as well dedicate the 768 MB of ram to my graphics card since Vista 32 can't handle more than 3 GB. I just don't think that it will make any difference since the regular ram probably doesn't make it faster.

BFG 9600 GT OC 512 MB Graphic card

Pushed by AMD Phenom X4 9500 processor.

( probably cheaper now )

Mothered by: Asus M3N78 PRO Motherboard.

Followed by 4 Gigs Crucial DDR2 PC2-6400 RAM.

I just hope it's enough. If I can't push SH5 wide open well I can come pretty close I think.

I have had a Nvidia 8800GTOC 512MB and it plays everything thrown at it wide open.Maybe later I'll get another card if this one quits working.

GTX 260 OC with 892 onboard. Odd number I know, but for some reason all the 260's are like that.

Also went with a BFG like Elder-Pirate did - have to like a company that gives you a LIFETIME warranty!

Still im enjoying the free copy of Batman: Ark assylum that came with it on my trustly 9800GT, A rather linier button bashing consoley type game, but very enjoayble none the less.

We need a new thread with appropriate question:

> What GPU you intend/hope to have in your PC in a six months ?

* * *
Should we start playing SH5 in April 2010, what relevance would have, on release date, your GPU history in September 2009... ?

Well just bought the UBoat expansion for SH4 (only $9.99 online @ UbiStore) and my current card, GTX 280 OC, doesn't even break a sweat. I'm redoing the FX for the game because the smoke, fire, and all are just piss poor. Needs some major visual overhauls. We'll see how the video card handles it after I've made the changes.
I'll probably be buying an nVidia 300 series card when SH V comes out. Not because I probably need to but because I can and like to stay up-to-date with computer hardware. Hell, I'll probably be putting in a new AMD CPU also since they should have something screaming around 4GHz by then. I got a lot of old computer stuff I should put up on e-bay. Anyone needing a complete system that was top of the line one day (has a BFGTech 8800GTX OC in it with AMD Athlon FX-62)? PM if interested. I don't need it anymore since I built my AMD quad-core system.
I was an ATI guy at one time. Then I tried nVidia. Now there's no going back
