I already started playing SH4 career but I'm quite new in this game and still don't know quite a lot of things especialy about manual targeting so i'm going to ask you couple of newbee questions for which i know you all know the answers. maybe there are some questions already answered on forum and i tryed searching for them but without much luck or they were not quite clear to me.
- what is maximun torpedo range? - i find users speaking about several methods for manual targeting like O'Kane method and some others, where can i find this tutorial and the others to so i can download it if they are in video or pdf format? - what method is the best one for menual targeting (if there is THE BEST method)? - how do you calculate shooting with aft torpedoes (is it the same thing like forward torpedos just the AOB is for 180° adjusted or?) - (targeting ships whic are in front of my bow) - (and the ones astern of me)

Check the description of said torpedo on the torpedo loadout screen. It will list the possible speeds and the ranges associated with them (but generally: faster->shorter range).

If I aim my aft tubes, I simply use 180 as the new 0degrees. Everything else is set up as usual, just with new numbers on the heading indicator.

i just watched O'Kane video tutorial and on this tutorial i saw him tracking targets course and measuring its speed on the map, but i don't get that information on my map, only if they send me over the radio where is enemy task force or convoy spotted. why is that? is it because i've chosen to play my career on very hard level or something that i'm missing to turn on during the game?

I think he has no map contacts update turned off, when you start a campaign, when you're in the office, click on the little radio to your left, on top of the book shelf and then go to gameplay. In the middle, look for no map contacts update and uncheck that, then you should be able to see them.

Sounds like you are running with map updates off. This turns off all your radar and visual nav map contacts. It does make the game more challenging but it does not make it more realistic. Turn them back on and check out Trigger Maru Overhauled if you think rightly that the game is giving you too much data. If you don't like the uber escorts of TMO, then I recommend Real Fleet Boat with the addition of TMOplot.

Of course, search the downloads section for Rockin Robbins as he so nicely uploaded TMO plot for RFB and the imo best keyboard setting, TMO keys.

i would first suggest you play stock game for at least one carrer then you will have a good understanding of everything the stock game offers. then you can tell and apreciate what the large mods do for the game. a very simplified answer to your question is RFB was originally trying to be purely realistic based only where TMO was going for very realistic but very challenging game play at the same time so for that reason some parts of TMO were made harder than in reality they were. the FOTRS (fall of the rising sun) mod is another very good super mod. they are all very good and you will enjoy them all, i suggest you try them all and run a full career with each one to learn what they are all about, then you can decide what fits your game style best. RSRDC (run silent run deep campaign) is a campaign mod that brings historical accuracy to ship movements and recreates historic battles at accurates dates and times so this is something you should use with or without any other mods. the exception is when learning the game it will greatly reduce the number and frequency of ships you will find so its better to keep the stock campaign so you have lots of frequent targets to shoot at and learn to set up your approaches and manual targetting with. |

while i was watching O'Kane method i saw his hotkeys which are as you know situated bottom left and they seem to be a lit different than custom ones (some of them were light blue and the ones on the bottom right which are used for maneuvring were also quite different). is there a mod for changing those keys and were can it be found?
and by the way I want to thank you for all your help by now and your patience! @HMUDA @EL CHEGUEVARA @STEAMWAKE @ROCKIN ROBBINS @WEBSTER THANX!!!

I think, not positive, he was using the Trigger Maru supermod. That's how he got the hud shortcuts on it. Always willing to help a fellow subsim fan, been in your shoes before, you will get the hang of it

i believe the blue keys are just used in v1.5 to indicate camera view buttons you can create your own menu key layouts with jimimadrid's "menumaker v2.0" but dont have more than 10 on any screen or they will be blocked by the fuel guage Last edited by Webster; 04-18-09 at 10:45 PM. |
