Default I have this DRM in Rise of Flight

Couldn't help but notice the DRM talk here, I'll tell you what I know about it.

Rise of Flight has online connection requirement, and also saves your games and missions on their servers.

I have a broadband connection, and while I havent had connection issues, there were times when their servers were down and no one could play (I didn't notice, I don't play it much anymore, the gameplay is really lacking in this one).

The biggest pain in the ass with this style drm...load times. They are ridiculous. I have an overclocked quadcore with latest and greatest graphics card etc... just for gaming but it doesnt matter. I'll fire this ROF up sometimes and litteraly stare at the load screen for close to 5 minutes while some quick mission, with my career stats, medals, and other nonesense has to be downloaded from somewhere in Moscow, half the world away.

Nine time out of ten I end up hitting the escape button and loading up something else to play.

Seeing how the ROF mission are kept online, I dont really know how big those files are. But someone can go back and look at SH3 or SH4 and see how big those save game files are, and get a good idea of how much you'll be downloading everytime you fire up the game.

Thats all I have to say about it.

Dont compare the ROF DRM with the UBI DRM...not the same producer, not the same technology, not the same servers. Although the basic principle of protecting a game with Internet connection is the same, the similarities stop there.

DON'T

JUMP

TO

CONCLUSIONS.

Not jumping to conclusions
There are those that have posted using DRMs - ok different to Ubis - make no difference

The OP says they do

Besides no conclusions to jump to
DONT want to be shackled to ubi 24/7 or however long I play

Agreed. Or, more to the point, whenever they let you play.

Great to see you back, btw.

Open the Silent Hunter V forum, hit Cntrl + F and seach for 'DRM'
more than half the topic titles contain the word 'DRM' on page 1 alone.
Maybe there should be an SHV 'DRM' forum

EXACTLY RIGHT! . There's no guarantee that Ubi's system will be as reliable as ROF's. .

+1 from me also, as I am experiencing the same drawbacks with the RoF DRM.
I drank the Kool-Aid and bought RoF because I love WW1 Flightsims and I wanted to support a small developer. I thought, "Hey, you´re on Cable with a Broadband connection. What could possibly happen?"
What happened is, what the OP told us. The Load times are utterly ridiculous and the Servers have a hiccup every now and then. It may not be often but it keeps me from playing when I want.
What I heard is, that the RoF Devs want to get rid of this special DRM Scheme in a future patch.

Just like in the old times. *sigh*

Do you remember when games came with a printed manual and once in a while you were asked in-Game to put in the 3rd word on the 4th line on Page 12? Golden Times.....

To be honest, I absolutely understand the need for Anti-Piracy Measures to a certain degree. The "certain degree" for me is the amount of hassle that the honest, paying customer has.
If a Pirate gets to play a game with every DRM removed and therefore without the problems I experience, then I don't see why I should embrace that special DRM at all and pay money for it. I pay money, support the Developer and Publisher and I am not allowed to play when I want but the Pirates happily play whenever and wherever they want? That seems a little bit unfair to me.

I could live with some sort of online Activation if a "Revoke Tool" is also present to "deactivate" my Game in order to reinstall it or something like that.

Yeah. We could have one "SHV DRM Venting" Subforum and keep on whining there. Sounds good.

They were sometimes a PITA those measures but they worked
9 times out of 10 also meant you had a manual of sorts included so was a bonus
TBH wouldt mind that sort of protection now

There are so many better ways than this OSP out there anyway

I have RoF too.
High end PC, broadband connection and still loading times of every mission are really ridiculous ...
And btw, right now authorization server for RoF is down, so no one can play ...
