Default Continuing Administrator Issues SH4 GOLD

Hi everybody, me again.

Having had various Administrator Issues with "Silent Hunter 4 Wolves of the Pacific GOLD EDITION"

In recent Weeks I now have the Following Issues which I need help with Please.

Hope the Rest of this Post makes sense to somebody? because it certainly doesn't make sense to me.

Having completely UnInstalled Silent hunter and re-Installed a fresh Copy To C:\ Silent Hunter 4, I know find It now works perfectly when

Loaded without making any changes to the Administrator or Compatibility settings.

HERE'S THE PROBLEM ! ! !

I can run a SH4 Simulation, I can save a Simulation, I can even go and play another Game and come back to SH4 and run

A new scenario or a saved game again!

BUT! This is only OK whilst my Computer stays on. If I switch My Computer off and go to bed and restart the Computer the next morning

and try to start SH4 I am confronted with a Red Box with the following Message:-

"This app has bee blocked for your protection. An administrator has blocked you from running this app"

Really hope somebody has some Ideas about this Please? because I am really starting to get Hump with this.

Many thanks

Paul.

That is indeed strange, Paul... What is your computer model number, and the OS you are using? Is it a stock install, or did a shop or friend set it up for you? I would recommend to not install the game directly in the root folder of C:, but rather make yourself a new folder, such as "C:\Games" or whatever you want to use, and install the game to that. Being directly off the root of the hard drive has the potential to cause issues, though I doubt that is what the case is here.

Also, are you using a disk version of the game, or a download from Ubisoft or Amazon, or similar?

Hi propbeanie,

Well, thanks for reply, apologies for my late reply.

Unfortunately your Games folder Installation Idea didn't work.

As said previously, I have never had a Problem with Silent Hunter 4 Installed as C:\Silent Hunter 4 on this Windows 10 Operating System.

Thinking of knocking Silent Hunter 4 GOLD on the Head have wasted To many Hours over this.

Many thanks

Paul.

It is a shame you cannot get the game to run on your computer. If you have anyone in your area familiar with computers, they might be able to come give you a hand at wrestling the beast to the ground, and forcing compliance upon it... - wishing you well with which ever way you go!

I'd pay $20 on Steam and give that a try. Just don't save the game to the default location. I know it sucks to pay again for a game you already have.

What 1Patriotofmany mentions reminds me pcohen, that if you do not have the Steam version of the game, and that with the disk version, you do have to allow the SH4 installation to "install" the DirectX v9.0c library files, along with the codec stuff. It does not over-write any current versions of DirectX, but instead "supplements" it with the older library file needed by SH4. The Steam and Ubi download versions should do that DirectX stuff for you while installing the game.

Default Still having SH4 Admin Issues

Hi Everybody.

This Is the latest situation with my Desktop Computer with my Windows 10 OS.

Hope it makes some sort of sense.

For some weeks now with a New Windows 10 setup I have been trying to run My Three Favourite Games/Simulations.

Which are Monopoloy NEW EDITION, Microsoft Train Simulator (Run as 1MSTS) and Silent Hunter 4 Wolves of The Pacific.

These 3 Programmes couldn't be any different but I can only Run any combination of Two of them succesfully.

When all 3 Programmes are on this Computer Silent hunter will not start from IT's Desktop Shortcut. getting Message:-
"An Administrator has blocked you from runnung this add"

I don't understand why this Is because the Windows 10 Installation I am using currently Is the same Windows 10 that was on my Computer

previously. I only Re-Installed Windows to have a clearout. I just don't understand why these three Programmes don't work seperately.

Anymore help or suggestions Please?

Thanks

Paul.

... I know this answer, but don't remember it... I do remember though that MSTS does cause issues on Win10 on my machine downstairs, which is an old Core2 quad. Do you have all of the updates available for MSTS, including the after-market ones? I'll see if I can look on the computer downstairs and get you some links. Seems to me this has to do with the DirectX files, but I am not certain. You could try to re-install the DirectX v9.0c run time, which if you have an SH4 install disk, it is on it, else you would have to use the MS online version. As for Monopoly, I am not familiar with it, but it might also be an older game and has some system requirements like MSTS and/or SH4. Unfortunately, there are a LOT of DirectX and Visual C++ library files, each with slightly different files inside, and it might be that one of the games you have overwrites the files of the previous. My computer downstairs has a dual-boot Win7/Win10 set-up, and I have it currently set to only be able to run MSTS in Win7, due to issues with it in Win10. I have a separate SH4 install copy for each of Win7 and Win10. All of those have folder names designating where I can run them, such as SH4Win7 and SH4Win10. I look and see what I have for MSTS downstairs, and see if I can find you some links...

There are so many potential causes.

If you try to run it and it hangs, and then you close it and then run it a second time and it works, there is probably some other program that needed to be running in the background but gets stuck initially - usually it ends up being rundll32.exe or some type of copy protection container that newer versions of Windows don't like.

You should generate a list of what is running when you do a fresh boot and compare it to what else is running after attempting to run the offending games.

If it just won't work at all, then you need to look at making sure the game is installed in a non-protected location (this is also the reason why add-ons don't work). Installing *anywhere* other than the Program Files (x86) directory should be ok.

The other thing you want to do is make sure that your normal login account is who owns the directory and all files where the game is located and they aren't read-only.

If it boots but crashes, it's probably a DirectX issue, a graphics setting issue, etc. Set your desktop resolution to match the game resolution. Disable display scaling on high dpi. You also might want to change compatibility settings and run the program as an administrator.

Apparently, some of my links for MSTS are now dead, but this looks like a repeat of what I had previously used:

https://msts.steam4me.net/tutorials/...sts_win10.html

a video version

There are a lot of links here, so you might find some of this interesting
https://www.railserve.com/Computers/MSTS/

of course, there are places you can spend money on the old girl also

Monopoly New Edition is not something I am familiar with, and searching on it yields mostly Monopoly Go! versions instead... but a couple links I did find said that a DirectX update is needed - for what that's worth...

I can’t remember the exact file but search YouTube for the problem that you have and there is a solution involving using ResEdit and changing the setting for Eula or off
