I have been practicing this for awhile but I cannot get the hang of it. I have CAWS and it has a draggable chart for the speed calc. But I cannot differentiate when the chug-chug-chug begins and ends to time the cycles. What am I looking for?
I have read many people's ideas how to calc, I just need to know what I am listening for. Where is the break to determine when the RPM begins. What is the technique?

I appreciate it, but I was hoping to do it au naturale! No special calculators, just by ear.

hi i have tried a little this. i have alwais tested with perocope at time of shoot and i have similar speed. My question is, if in rough sea the table of charts add on dont work. Becose going front to the waves the same propeler revolution per mitues should get a minor speed, based in displasament.
I dont know how is modeleded in game, but i think i could be link in game. my question is if the revolution per minutes of the propel is linked in game to the "propulsion" or real final speed in game? thanks for info. |

If I'm remembering correctly, the top line is revolutions / min. So you would need to listen for 1 min or a derivative to get the revolutions per minute. Issue is blade count. I believe there's more to this chart, or another chart that lists the number of blades on common ships. In any case, there's supposed to be an accent note on each revolution, like a 3 blade propeller may make a sound similar to chug... chug... CHUG... chug... chug... CHUG. <-- that would be 2 revolutions. With the ship identified or estimated, you find the revs/min on the top line then read the speed in knots inside the table.
I believe there's another chart that helps with identification based on sound, but I also think that there is a sound mod that must be implemented to make all of this work. I don't think it's stock SH3 sounds. Hope this helps.
