Default Take a moment to be grateful

Hey guys, I've been going through a turbulent time lately, really questioning my religion. I've looked at cases by Christians, Atheists and Agnostics, and one thing's really hit me: we Humans spend so much time arguing about why we exist, that we don't take time to appreciate that we do exist. So perhaps when we've had a bad day, we should just thank the deity/random quantum fluctuation that bought us into being.

I quite like existing

It may be an overused cliche, but in the past I have found it true. The simple things in life can really get you through the toughest times. As mental gymnastics go; When the world around you is absolute crap, find what is yours, and make an island for yourself.

As soon as you discover and come to grips with the fact that everything in the physical realm is temporary, then you can get on with living, laughing and loving.

I Ching, 36 - The Darkening of the Light

THE JUDGMENT
Darkening of the light. In adversity
It furthers one to be persevering.

THE IMAGE
The light has sunk into the earth:
The image of darkening of the light.
Thus does the superior man live with the great mass:
He veils his light, yet still shines.

Only 4 more years till you find out.

Its good to question your beliefs. But remember one thing regardless on what beliefs you settle on. You are for a good time not a long time.

People at work ask me how I'm going and I always answer the same way. "Wonderful" Some ask me why, thinking I'm being sarcastic and I respond that I'm alive, I have a great wife and family, a roof over my head and a good job that pays enough to do some fun stuff. Things could be a whole lot worse.

If you are healthy and alive you are ahead in the game of life.

Regardless of what my third eye sees, I am certain of only one thing: we are a by-product of a planetary system formation.
And each of us is given a merry-go-round ticket valid for about 80 rounds, give or take.
It's amazing how dust specks floating in space, spread across millions of miles, remnants of a long gone dead star, evolved into sentient beings.
Enjoy the ride and share it with thy neighbours.

I love my family.

Even the ones in prison.

When you question anything, do so honestly, not with prejudgement.

It's been my experience that people only argue about what they don't know, or at best what they think they know. Once a question is proven there is no argument.

As for enjoying life, there really isn't much else you can do, unless you want to single out the bad parts and only think of them. It's much better to enjoy the good. If you can only find one good thing, make the most of it.

Living A Life That Matters

Ready or not, some day it will all come to an end. There will be no more sunrises, no minutes, hours, or days. All the things you collected, whether treasured or forgotten, will pass to someone else. Your wealth, fame and temporal power will shrivel to irrelevance.

It will not matter what you owned or what you were owed. Your grudges, resentments, frustrations and jealousies will finally disappear. So too, your hopes, ambitions, plans and to-do lists will expire. The wins and losses that once seemed so important will fade away.

It won't matter where you came from or what side of the tracks you lived on at the end. It won't matter whether you were beautiful or brilliant. Even your gender and skin color will be irrelevant.

So what will matter?

How will the value of your days be measured?

What will matter is not what you bought, but what you built; not what you got, but what you gave.

What will matter is not your success, but your significance.

What will matter is about what you learned as well as what you taught.

What will matter is every act of integrity, compassion, courage or sacrifice that enriched, empowered or encouraged others to emulate your example.

What will matter is not your competence, but your character.

What will matter is not how many people you knew, but how many felt good when they were around you and how you served them. What will matter is not your memories, but the memories that live in those who loved you.

What will matter is how long you will be remembered, by whom and for what.

Living a life that matters doesn't happen by accident. It's not a matter of circumstance but of choice. Choose to live a life that matters.

Bloody hell mate, that's one helluva speech. Hats off old lad, I hope you manage to achieve it. Makes me feel a bit humble I'm not a religious sort, quite contrary actually. However that post seems to have summed up most faiths beliefs in one.

Best regards.
