Problem with Grönemeyer is - he is famous in Germany that almost nobody can understand what he sings. No joke, it's true. Say "Grönemeyer" on the streets, and people immediately say "Boy I can't understand that guy..."

He should write songs, but not sing himself, imo. A few of his texts and songs were good, most do not interest me. In German pop music he is one of the leading big numbers. "Das Boot" was just an experiment in acting, he does not make any appearances as actor since then. In a long talkshow I once saw him in he gave me the impression to be a very reasonable, intelligent and sensible guy.

After "Das Boot" he plays 1983 as an actor in the german movie "Frühlingssinfonie". This movie was the first co-production of West- and East- Germany. In preparation for this role, he lived for half a year in the GDR.

2007 he was acting as a doctor in the movie Control, a film about Ian Curtis, lead singer of the band Joy Divison.

My first contact with his music was 1982 when he sang his song about a very popular German fast food dish, the Currywurst.

Also known as the "Kampfsänger", or combat singer
Haven't heard of him for a long while though.

Indeed, however, his songs are pretty good to listen to when you are on a party and are getting drunk.
Still beats that HipHop crap these days.
