Default Police Decoy cars; most awesome thing ever?

I'm watching some program, "Jacked", the police have some cars wired with cameras and remotes. They leave them in areas of town where car theft is a chronic problem then stake out the area. They video people as they scope out the car, and when some jokers decide the car is theirs, they follow them a short distance. The car has a camera inside as well, so you can watch the idiots freaking out when the engine shuts down and the doors lock themselves. Car thieves apprehended.

Awesome.

There was also a show on TruTV (formerly Court TV) called Bait Car. It is the same premise. I loved seeing those idiots react to that stuff.

I forget the precise show, but there was one setup with a lorry left with its rear doors open and boxes inside. Some joker climbed up to nick one of the boxes, then two guys slammed the doors shut and pulled down the sides to reveal the joker trapped in like a zoo enclosure with bars. The lorry then drove around central London while a loudspeaker proclaimed things like "See the common thief in its natural habitat!"

If I find a clip on the tube I'll link it.

Could that not be classed as entrapment. I'm sure a smart bloodsucker oops, I meant lawyer would argue that.

No entrapment would be if they had no choice but to do the deed or if there was an obvious invitation to do the crime.

In England it is only entrapment if the police provide "extraordinary
opportunity" to commit crime.

A car parked in a road is an opportunity for crime, but not entrapment.
A car parked in a road with the keys left in the door is an extraordinary
opportunity for crime, and thus entrapment.

Yeah, I'm sure some will call it entrapment. I would not agree. A decoy car or a lorry with the doors open, not anyone's business but the owner's. If that's entrapment, life is one big entrapment.

Lol, I don't agree with that either, maybe a car parked in a road with the keys left in the door and a sign reading "Steal me!!", ok.

No, it is not entrapment. Liken this to an undercover woman officer in a particular part of the neighborhood that is known for prostitution. The woman officer dresses the part and walks the walk. All the John has to do is offer up some sort of compensation for sex. Yet, the woman officer has not said anything as far as offer of sex for cash. That has to left up to the John. Same with the car. It sits in the known part of the neighborhood looking like a easy target. It walks the walk. It says nothing. Car jacker breaks in and takes the car. The car jacker initiated the theft.
